Wild Boars in Age of Empires IV!

I am finding it adorably fascinating, that few people I already heard talking about it, seem to be fascinated by the fact devs are paying attention to pigs being forbidden to Islamic culture. I know AoE4 is made by a different studio, but AoE3 already made all animals, but fishes uneatable for Japanese as Buddhists and Cows holy for Indians Hinduists. Anyway, nice video.

Agree Yin - AOE3 did this already. But amazingly while these animals cannot be harvested, the cows could still give XP. In AOE IV if there is Abbasid vs Rus, Rus will simply rush and kill the boar from the Abbasid guy and get that bounty. But indeed, Abbasid will eat berries faster. Its a balance of course, but early game free gold without mining camp is quite strong.

Correction at 3:20: In the technical stress test I tried killing a boar with 4 scouts (making the boar run around in circles) and could not carry it anywhere. I did have the hunters thingy researched, which is why I was extremely upset when I couldnt. I was playing as the Chinese, so it wasn't because of Abbasyd stuff.

Hey Twinsen - thanks for the comment. Someone else mentioned this as well. The technology Professional Scouts clearly states that "carry animal carcasses", this means that either there's a bug in the game that should be fixed to carry the boars, or the description is incorrect and should be updated to reflect this. EDIT: Some people have mentioned that they haven't been able to carry the boar in the Technical Stress Test. While the technology Professional Scouts clearly states: "... carry animal carcasses", this means that either there's a bug in the game that should be fixed to carry the boars, or the description is incorrect and should be updated to reflect this. Thanks for the people in the comments below that pointed this out - I'll follow up once the game is released! EDIT 2: Horticulture, Fertilization, and Precision Cross Breeding may have the same issue as well. Top Khan mentioned that he's pretty sure they don't affect boar gather rates. This is inconsistent with the tooltip's description of "gathering food rate by 15%." Judging by these two things, we may have a significant tooltip accuracy problem that the devs need to address asap! The Boar in Age of Empires IV is a beast! I admittedly haven't tried carrying a boar myself, but if it's only deer, then they should definitely update the description of the tech. I think we will see a lot more people going early boars. You can use your scout to tank a boar while vills kill it. The boar gives such a massive amount more food/minute gathering from it compared to sheep that it is worth it if it's close. Most maps we saw in the stress test the boar was super far away though. Professional scouts in the stress test were not able to pick up Boar. So it might not work to do that either. It seems like a strange thing to count out. Horticulture and upgrades in that line of tech also do not effect hunted gather rates. (Althought they make no mention of it in their tooltips) I tested it a lot and 100% am sure that it didnt increase the rates in the stress test. They only worked for Farming and sheep as far as I could tell.

I think so too. We don't know the meta yet - hence why I put a note that a patch or meta can change this and boars could be picked up in the dark age. Regarding picking up Boars, I edited my pinned comment to answer that! :) Thanks for letting me know about the Horticulture, etc techs not affecting the boar as well! Given this info, there seems to be a very clear (and quite frankly worrying) problem with tooltips then.. it clearly states "gathering rate for food" for heaven's sake. People are of course going to assume all food sources if you don't qualify which it is for.

@@golgo4780 you right, deer, board, sheep are too common, need goat, geese, Swan, Guinea fowl, and exotic too like peacock. predator like Asiatic lion, tiger, bear, leopard, hyena. crab, lobster these animal are hunt in medieval.

I hope that when you use scouts to right-click hunt, they auto pick them up and return to nearest mill/tc then go back out to get more as if they're a vil until you click them to another task. It's honestly oddly micro-intensive to use professional scouts.

I actually have an idea how to lure a boar. Is it possible to wall it in? You probably have to make two walls on the side. Attack with one villager and build a wall behind the boar. and if you can lure it further then you could wall it further and further.

You cannot lure boars in Age of Empires 4. You simply need to mill it with quite a few villagers to harvest its food.

Cool video, but there's something that im pretty sure is just plain wrong... You cannot use your scout to bring the boar's carcass to your TC, not even with Professional Scouts, that only works on deer.

Infact there are places in India where even beef is consumed. It feels as if like always Asian civilizations are not researched well.

Now, I'm not sure why they chose such a specific civilization from the area, especially since we only have 8 Civs, but the Delhi Sultanate was predominantly Muslim as far as I know. There is merit in questioning whether the Delhi Sultanate fits within the 8 Civs or not, but that's a tricky topic tbh..

But their representation is wrong, they were not predominantly Muslim, only the nobles which were a small percentage were Muslims who ruled over a majority Hindu population (Like Norman England). That's why the choice to use Persian for DS is also wrong because most of the populace would have spoken an older version of Hindi not Persian. The architecture was also not islamic, DS had their own distinct architecture along with existing Hindu architecture. They haven't put in the effort to study this part of the world and it's disappointing.

I'm pretty sure you can't carry the boar with professional scouts. I tried back in closed beta, but didnt try in stress test... if that's true, it makes boars pointless, since no sane person will camp a boar with 10+ undefended villagers extremely far from the base

I would do it because they have the highest gather rate in the game, as well only a max of 8 can gather from it at one time. Place an outpost on top of it, especially as Rus because theirs can garrison 8 units. And ur also correct about the professional scouts thing.

Not really, boars now are more dependent on map control. It's worth it to put up a mill just to harvest the boar due to the insane gather speed and high food amount

Another way to lame food in aoe4 is to build buildings on the carcass. I know this works with mills, but if the delhi can do it with spearmen building walls that could be quite an effective lame.

The no carcass decay thing is clearly because of the Rus and fear of laming, but it's pretty awful to me. Also, the Rus getting money for slaughtering all animals is pretty messed up lol. Couldn't they tweak it to be based on how many animals they fully collected from?

The lore for it is that essentially they sell the pelt for gold, so just killing it counts as getting the pelt.

I feel like for Rus getting boar is easy and perfect for the faction. You already will be getting professional scouts to take deer but also you most likely will be making Early Knights for harass and if so you can use them to kill enemy boar and take it back to your base.
