OUTDOOR ALLY

Күн бұрын

Decided to get out the house on a bank holiday weekend . Drove for hours down to the solway Coast and Galloway Forest just exploring old Castles and stuff. Ended up in the Galloway Forest to set up my tent (crua duo) and tarp (dd4x4) . As there was no wind and forgetting it was midge season , I was absolutely attacked by swarms of midges but managed to soldier on through it (with the help of some alcohol and a midge net 😁)

What works for me is to get garlic bread from the supermarket and have it the night before. When your out and about any sweat you have they stay away because of the garlic.

Would it work but when your sat in 1 spot with swarms of them around you ? , I think there's a few things that help a wee bit but don't think anyone would have got off lightly where I was 😁

Set a white light up away from camp, 10-15 feetlike, use a red or green for your own lighting and the buzzies should favour the white light over you. Also smudge pots are good. 🤘

Dd 4×4 I like to pull the sides in for a wee bit more wind cover plus it doesn't need as much space between trees. And yeah it was only the next day I thought why didn't I just burn the logs from the wee bushcraft wall 😂 thanks for watching Gus 👍🏕

The only thing you can take with you to help on a camp like that is a fat bloke who sweats a lot - a midge magnet! Me personally I dont camp near water in the summer months - I hate the midges and they definitely have a taste for biting me!

@@OUTDOORALLY Yes I will be at the live stream. The places I camp they are not usually too bad - but when they are bad it can be torture, I think cover up and hide is all you can do when they swarm.

That looked brutal. Nothing works for midges as far as I'm concerned. A bit fire smoke initially, but even if they're not biting they're still annoying hanging about. I have heard though, permethrin spray on your tent and clothes is apparently good, lasts up to y washes on clothes. It's a pesticide farmers use. Some do gooders will turn theor nose up but I'm going to give it a bash. Apparently it's OK for dogs but can be toxic to cats when wet, and I've got 3 cars, so going to use.wither someone else's garden until it's dry or do it when we're away sometime and it's dry 👌
