great place but there is loads of people just leaving there mess all over the place spoils it for the rest of us couple of years back that spot was very clean i found a bin bag full but was just left in the fire pit i did not film it i just put it in my car and took it home with us

Ollie is hilarious in this video, Stuart. I can see it was published three years ago, but I thought it might be an idea to mention Techniquest. My Son used to go there and he loved the Planets. It's a great place for kids to learn about basic science and experimentation. I suppose many of the exhibits illustrate physics, but it's easier for kids to grasp when the items are so hands-on.

Ollie's a real cute kid. I've a great nephew with same name though he's 18. I take it that tent light is led? I have a big led light but the rechargeable battery failed quickly. I made a long lead up with crocodile clips to power it from car battery via the charging input but now the I R remote for it doesn't work properly so I may need to rewire it, which isn't as easy as it sounds. I need to know the voltage of the dead battery so I can wire the 12v input to where it was connected. If the battery's only 6v I could blow the LEDs so then I'd need a resistor.

I think there are two ways into there, one from the north (Dalmellington) and another from the south at Stinchar Bridge. During the off season (I think November thru March at least) that section of road he's turned up, Carrick Forest Drive, where the tarmac suddenly goes to gravel ... is CLOSED at that end, which means you CAN'T access that spot from the direction he's gone (Dalmellington turning) in closed season, so, if you are a winter season adventurer, come in from the south, Stinchar Bridge, CARRY A LARGER SAW ... and some good chain or marine grade thick rope (because you're not unlikely to encounter fallen trunks across tracks you may not fancy u-turning on given the proximity of deep boggy ditches) and a GOOD MAP AND COMPASS along with your road gps, road gps doesnt often accurately depict forestry tracks but you can use it to locate yourself on a map by usin' it's zoom for the blue bits you don't drive through (lochs). It's absolutely SERENE up there out of season and if you get a clear sky, you'll be beating yourself up with a big log for not carrying binoculars failing at least a basic telescope ... In case you get stuck up there, get drunk and lock your car keys in it or such, you be advised (by me anyway) to carry a device with a Vodaphone SIM in it with credit on as you'll have a LONG walk on the wrong day otherwise to find help. It won't have more than patchy cover but that's sure better than none when that remote.

@Jamie, what time of year are you goin' there buddy ? I'm not a one time visitor to those lochs there and know exactly where the spot in his video is, it's on a decent section of forestry track, it's on the left, some way up the Carrick Forest Drive (if you enter the Forest Park from the direction he did) but you'll have gone 10 miles off the Dalmellington turn before your tarmac runs out and you're on the gravel. You can only get in to that spot from the "highway" from the two approaches I stated. Google Maps has Carrick Forest Drive on it so yes, it should, if your Nav app isn't antique and you're not relying on a cell network for the signal. Within a mile of that lay by site there are half a dozen spots where you can literally camp out of the side/back of your vehicle and there's GOOD hard standing, wind and downpour shelter at the Stinchar Bridge approach end should you pick seriously bad weather to have to contend with on arrival and need a few days safeish haven from the open spots.
