Camping in Dartmoor is amazing. The landscapes are almost flat so you can easily setup your tents. The rock formations, on the other hand are breath-taking, and the shallow lake is a music to your ear, especially before bed time. Thanks for sharing the words, dude.

Nice one Russ. Keep it goin' mate. Leave no trace, respect. Yeah, it makes us feel good when even hiking alone we leave our places better for others. No smugness intended, just common sense.

I feel that the campfire is integral to the whole wild camping experience. A folding pire pit solves the 'leave no trace' ethic and coupled with responsible behaviour and an awareness of any environmental risks - just add beer and good cheer :)

Those Scottish nights can be cold whatever the season so the fire is a must. Just pour water over it once you're finished and bury the remains in earth/sand. Make it look as though you were never there.

Adding 2-3kg to your pack for this is a luxury. If you are car camping, not really an issue, if you are hiking it could burn more calories than it's worth.

Use a Kelly kettle instead of a gas stove. They are designed to contain a fire and all you need to do really is place it on a flat rock and you can really use it anywhere without worrying much about causing forest fires just make sure you get a stainless steel one instead of aluminium it will last longer and be more durable

One upon a time, the human family was a part of nature and belonged in nature. Flattening grass by sitting on it, piling up rocks for whatever reason or even painting on cave walls, was not seen as an act of raping mother earth. The simple duty of responsible stewardship, has turned into inherent guilt and self loathing - for no other reason than simply existing. If simply occupying space in nature, in the mind of some, has become some sort of dirty pollution, the logical conclusion would be to just camp out at the coffee shop. On that note - although very destructive to multi million Beverly Hills mansion, forest - and wild fires predate even KZbin and is one of natures own, and best rejuvenating agents. Be responsible folks, but please stop the guilt trip.

Very good information, but id say right now that No fires and leave no trace are most important if our hobby is to continue. Ive been wild camping since I was a kid in my local area (I live a mile from Ennerdale) and lately with whats happening in the world and with govt advice to no go abroad means we have a huge amount of footfall across our national parks. This also has led to a massive amount of people lighting fires and dumping trash, and by trash I mean a lot of people taking camping gear and beer cans or bottles up our hills and then leaving it all when they are finished even the camping gear!. And several fell fires have taken hold and had to be put out. I know my local authority and cumbria council (the one that presides over the park) are considering more restrictions and possible bans due to this. They have just introduced a new bylaw that says any camper vans not on campsites are to be escorted from the park by police where as this was previously "allowed" even though technically not legal. So please please folks be responsible and follow the guidelines in the video. Personally I havent been out since March and wont be until the colder weather arrives when people will thin out a lot as I have never seen so many people out in the lakes as over this past month. ATB.
