Some thoughtful comments there on care and travel with your pet in the hills. Worthwhile topic bc not seen others post on it. I've been told that women camping alone in the hills more often take a dog for safety against a potential attacker. I am very sad to learn that, but I can understand and respect the choice. Thx for posting.

Hi Dave. Rucksack - just retrieved my Karrimor frame sac from the garage - after FORTY+ YEARS, still in perfect shape. It's fairly light (alloy frame), waterproof - not 'water-resistant' & prob about 45-50+ litres but the frame makes it easy to strap camp mat etc under the frame without discomfort and waterproofs to the top. I've never found a more comfortable pack. The frame is not contoured; it it's more like a pack frame but it has a stretched woven back brace which keep it off the back to provide ventilation. I truly envy you taking Honey with you. Both our beloved dogs are pensioners like me. Staffie Lila is not so good on her legs and often needs to pee in the night but is the sort to stick to one like glue. Our Westie Flora would be off like a shot and poss down any rabbit, fox or badger hole and, whilst a great companion, would take stress levels to cosmic. Honey is a real blessing. I'm with you all the way in the need to get one's loving friend to respond but where livestock are around, I'm still so old-fashioned as to believe in the extending lead. You've created a brilliant and unrivaled video on combined subjects that could help an awful lot of man-dog expeditions. (Perhaps to be PC, I should have said 'person-dog') You had a fair bit of wind that night. - the tent was a bit 'flappy'. My heart warmed as you explained your extra kit to keep your 'girl' warm. Not every dog-camper takes so much care and trouble. Good on' y'! A 'little bit o' love' - spot on. Our loyal dogs can be so darned humble - she WAS thirsty but she wasn't pushy. We might insist ion our cappuccinos (heaven forbid) on tap but they are so content to be watered. Sorry about your spotted d--k. Know exactly what you mean about the fragility of the fabric between self (and dog) and the elements. It falls between the precarious and the utterly ecstatic There is noting like it. Apologies for such a rambling comment but a video like yours deserves a bit better than "Cool vid - great kit - like it!" Best wishes to you and to your family and your pack. Paul

Some nice kit and tips Dave, liking the tent, so how do I go about getting Decathlon to send me money ? Next vid on that perhaps ? :-)
@Fellmandave14 жыл бұрын
Cheers Andrew. Decathlon dough? About a year of twisting on about the description of a tent. Actually in a video soon (snow time?) I will be describing the amendments i have had made to the simond makalu 2 to bring up it to to the description decathlon originally had. They only gave me 2/5 of what those trousers cost but using the justifiable/ greedy outdoor gear conversion table the value magically grew!

@Mrs Stewart Hi Mrs S. This sydvang skaring is superb but difficult to fit into tight spots. Depends on budget. What do you want to spend?

I'm just about to get into camping, with my 2 terriers..a quick question.. Or 2. What tent was yours, it looks similar to one I've been looking at 'tempest pro 200’ mainly because of room for the dogs & the porch area...I'm bursting to get out there HAHAH..I can't afford all this top gear I see people displaying etc & the price of the tempest seems about right, I was just about to ask your bag size but you answered as I was typing so no bother...thanks for the video & all the best! Lee.

@@Fellmandave1 nice to hear I done OK by the sounds of a lot of comments I've had & now from someone who actually has one..well chuft...can't wait for it to arrive, still a few thing (ALOT) to get..lol..but a sleeping mat sounds like a bit of a must...sumat I'd never of thought of before watching videos, I thought sleeping bag would be fine..but I see now I need to be off the floor soaking in all that coldness from the ground! So much gear available nowadays for campers..35ish yrs ago..I just had my 2man army tent & dealt with the flu later!

Have you considered having the dog carry some kit (depending on fitness and age etc. of course)?
@Fellmandave12 жыл бұрын
Not really. Dogs are such great movers and an expression of running free in the hills. I would hate to take that away..

Haha tell me about it I have a Lakeland & patterdale/staffy cross...ex abused dogs...absolute maniacs, Duracell style energy & very hard to train! But...they go where I go, if they aren't allowed we all move on! Not vicious dogs but can get spooked, separation anxiety & can be noisey around other animals!¯\_ (ツ) _/¯
