He's living in a place where he doesn't pay rent, and instead of taking that 30 day notice and 18 months of funding to simply find a new place to live, he decides to act like a jerk in court, grasping at straws to avoid facing the inevitable. Smh. Guys like this make it hard on people who truly do need the assistance and aren't able to get it.

When I was living in MA in the late 90's there was a lawyer who would sign a yearly lease for an apartment and then after paying rent for 1-2 months would stop paying and it would take over a year to get rid of him legally... He did this over and over again for years..finally word got out into the city via the television coverage and people stopped renting to him

@Stephen Mintz Evictions generally don't appear on credit reports and that's the only access a person or company has access to. (other than criminal). Now with the internet and social media, they can do a search online and find out a LOT about you not in the official reports. The only time an eviction would appear on your credit report is if it goes to collections, then the collection agency would list it.
@tater60
@tater60 2 жыл бұрын
As a former landlord.. in these cases, though I knew I would never collect, I would send it to collections, just so it would ding the credit report.. A lot depends on county you reside in.. my County, all the court records, including evictionss are easily available on the internet.. the next county over, you have to go to court house.. which makes looking up individuals cumbersome

Ehh. Yes and no.. you will need to prove that the person wasn't evicted for protected reasons.. such as having a child, unless you have a 55 and over restricted hoa, race, etc.. I was selling a small complex during covid and the new owners asked me to not renew leases since they wanted to do renovations.. so I complied with that and it was allowed..

It is! My mom rents out my childhood home (being a landlord isn't her job, she definitely doesn't make much profit off of it) and the process to evict is 100% in the favor of the tenant. I feel like it should be a bit more balanced but I guess she tries to be fair and I know others don't. She had to evict someone a few years ago and the state he left the home in...well I can't even come up with a proper word for how disgusting it was. We had to put a lot of time and money to get the property to a nice place to be rented and all that time plus the time the tenant didn't pay was really hard on my mom financially (not to mention new flooring, paint, fixtures, etc.). Being a landlord definitely isn't for the faint of heart and sometimes she just wants to sell this one property but it has sentimental value to us.

Hi Mike! 👋🏻 He def has a chip on his shoulder! I get being evicted is no fun, but between his attitude and behavior in just these 15 min, I wanted to scream! You hit the nail right on the head stating he feels entitled. It is STRONG with this one. People like him need to be hit with a hard dose of reality. Momma raised a spoiled BRAT and its showing. But then again with her behavior towards one of the kindest judges in the world, shows me the apple truly didn't fall far from the tree with these 2. My gosh! I bet Judge M was SO glad for that case to be over. I know I certainly was! 😂 thank you for the great commentary, as always! Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend! Take care! 😊

I used to own rental property in PA. There's been proceedures & policies added to eviction laws to protect renters from the old days when landlords could evict people the same day of the notice & rightfully so. But the pendulum has swung too far the other way & is stuck. Eviction notice of 30 days, a hearing before a judge confirming the eviction. An appeal hearing to stall for more time & another 30 days to vacate. This can drag out for a few months, they don't pay rent, even if you win the case & the renter is ordered to pay back rent...you'll never see it. 🤬

What kills me is people like them rely on public assistance to pay rent and utilities because more often than not they are too lazy to get a job and earn a proper living, but YET, they always have money for cigarettes and other crap. I wish there were laws with public assistance and food stamps that in order to be approved one must not smoke chew tobacco or if they do they should at least have a certain amount of financial assistance deducted. If you have enough money to buy a $7 pack of smokes every day ( over $200/month essentially) then you can afford to pay your electric bill or buy some groceries! I say this as a current smoker myself too! But I work over 40 hrs a week and pay for everything I have because I take pride in contributing to society and earning my way through life!!!

I literally can’t stand people that feel entitled to property someone else owns when their lease is up and they’re asked to move. If you want to OWN and be entitled to something, GO BUY A HOUSE!

That first dude, he was a gas. He interrupted everyone constantly on every little thing but got hugely offended when anyone interrupted him for any reason.

Use to manage townhomes.. Evictions are never a walk in the park. The confrontations in or out of court with excuses are always off the wall.

Im always amused when i see a defendant try and argue that a minor spelling error in their name means that it isnt them. This type of issue comes up in criminal law all the time, especially for arrest and search warrants, judges arent stupid and easily deal with it. Besides, he turned up for court, with his mother, and participated in the proceedings. Your 3rd grade bull isnt going to fly jammy.

Trying to communicate we these people is like trying to describe what a Ferris Wheel is to a Neanderthal. And the worse part of all this is that everyone is forced to ignore the Neanderthal in the room and pretend it doesn't exist. You can't even acknowledge it.

For goodness sakes! I'm one of the most bleeding-heart liberals you'll find and believe in helping people, always, but jerks like this ruin it for everyone. He's just playing the system and he sucks.
