I was down that way in the early 90's with Jack Waltley collecting Discus, I haven't had a Discus tank in years tho 😞

I have never been a fan of discus because all the ones i have seen have crazy colors and look very artificial. But you have changed my mind showing these stunning wild specimens. I may have to set up a discus biotope one day!

One thing i love to watch is to see Aquarium fish swimming in their natural habitat :D

For such delicate fish, I was expecting their habitat to have clear water.

Turbid doesn't mean poor in quality. I'll bet you a shiny pebble that there are zero organic pollutants in there.

Most discus come from waters that are cloudy or have a high sediment or black water. But cloudy does not mean dirty. The water is very clean

I love how hypocrite we are that fishes need crystal clear water 😢they like to pick things from the debri and all of that gunk. Thats why i switched from planted tanks to biotopes ❤ Thanks for providing magical video ❤

The biggest issue is not clear or cloudy water, the dynamics of nature are very complex, the volumes of water, rainfall, circulation with currents, the water has turbidity, but there is no ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, the balance is perfect and the What changes the most is the PH of the water, during the dry period when it doesn't rain, the water levels drop and in some locations the rivers dry up, the organic load with leaves and plant debris from the forest sends humic acids and gases from the decomposition of the forest. organic matter in rivers and lakes, causing the water to have low oxygenation and an acidic pH, reaching up to 2-3 Ph, during the flood period with a lot of rain the pH is between 6 and 6.5

What a lot of gunk and decaying leaves! Funny how discus keepers hate natural environments and most of them don't even have plants or substrate in their oh so clean and sterile tanks. The poor fish must get so bored.
@anameliacrizanto24164 ай бұрын
In natural habitat, it is not dirt, it is natural leaves and debris from forest trees, and so the water will have all the natural acids and the perfect composition for fish, the turbidity in some places is natural, and others the water is clearer but with lots of leaves, trunks and vegetation, mother nature's house

Just found this video and I love the wild discus. I have a 90 gal I'm planning on setting up as natural as possible. Thank you for showing us this, awesome video. Also, do you know of any wild discus breeders? I would rather have those than the the flashy colors that aren't naturally occurring.
