Gotta love KATHY, she is like the JEWELWEED. She has a personality that sparkles and shines that makes you want to say awe. Same as the flower, Kathy's heart has great beauty in that it gives energy and joy, just like the seed pod waits to burst open with a surprise to spread it's seeds to live another day she waits for a new day to pop out and spread all of her knowledge so it to can live another day. Another word for jewel is gem and Kathy is one of the most precious.

Wood sorrel is delicious. I remember trying it on a trip to Sweden when I was 7 years old, and several years later I noticed a similar looking plant at home and decided to try it. I’m lucky it wasn’t poisonous lol it was the same plant, but ours have much smaller leaves. Back then I just called it clover

When I was a kid, I used to play in a particular meadow around my farmhouse in Wisconsin. There was a patch of stinging nettle that I had to go through to get to it. I went through it with shorts and t-shirt every day in the summer until the stinging stopped and I became immune to them. Then, when I was a teenager I tried to go through a patch of nettles, they stung me. I guess the immunity wore off after several years?

I graze on violets all spring, even my dog likes them. We have the dark purple and confederate violets here in PA . I love and enjoy foraging for what I do know, I also am working on having a wild edible yard, I was wondering if u had a few milkweed seeds left, if so, could I buy them from u? Love your enthusiasm :) Alas we have young nettles all year round. However the tea becomes addictive! My diet is 80% wild plants, nettles every day. I suppose I am raw vegan, but hate the word vegan. Ony harvest the top 2/3 layers of leaves. Strange, the older leaves are sweeter, but they contain cystoliths that may irritate the kidneys.

We have an serious Himalayan balsam problem in the UK, which is getting worse. This invasive plant likes to grow along river banks, and is nice to look at, but it competes with the native plants, killing them, replacing them, and when it dies In the winter the months, there follows river back erosion. However, helping to destroy the plants is rewarding especially as the seeds are edible and taste similar to Walnuts!!

Nettle leaves can also be wilted, in a low oven, or by a campfire to get rid of the sting. Behind the thistle, aren't those Jerusalem artichokes? The roots of those are among my favorite foods.
@redfernfarm86066 жыл бұрын
I have trouble with Jerusalem artichokes. When I dig them in the fall, they look so good. Yet when I cook them up, they create a great deal of "wind" in my digestive tract. If I let them mellow through the winter and convert the inulin to digestible starches, they do not look appetizing to eat. - Kathy

We Grow a lot of RHUBARB in my region, They say, Only Pick Rhubarb Stalks in a Month without a letter 'R' in the name ! = May, June, July, August. & Never to eat the Leaves. Rhubarb is said to contain Oxalic acid. Rhubarb has a very distinctive flavour, Very sharp & Bitter, We use it cooked / stewed in Pies & Crumbles. Similar to Apple Pie. Unsweetened the SHARPNESS is Almost like eating Lemons. But with a Superb & Individual Flavour. VERY nice eaten in Sensible Portions , Not too much & not too often. They say, Stay near a toilet if you eat 2 much !
