My wife and I were passed by you at 7:44. You were hauling. This race is no joke and our bodies/canoe have the scars to prove it. We learned a lot and can't wait for next year. See u there!

I would NOT stop paddling as you passed 😁

In your situation it wouldn't change the outcome Kevin ;)

That looked like so much fun! I ducked my head when you went under some of those logs, lol. My club's first race of the season is this coming weekend 04-27-2024 -USCA Indiana division.

Great video, looks like the battery lasted just long enough to capture most of the race. Cant believe Chad and Amy moved aside to let you go by!

I caught them in a tough turn and got lucky lol. The water is throwing them to the side :)

how did you not rip the rudder straight off that thing?

A smart track kick up rudder does wonders :)

I would of cleared the log in 15 seconds with minimal boat contact. This slowed me to around 45 seconds with 2 people yanking on me and sharing their feelings ha ha. I figured someone paid them to run additional interference???

Or maybe it was after you literally ran over the guy in the canoe (edited out of video) and didn’t bother apologizing.

I did not run anyone over. My kayak only made slight contact with the green canoe - if at all. I did say "thank you" since I thought he was attempting to make space for me. Likely unheard since someone was calling me an "asshole" very loudly which I did have to edit out. Running into people is not the fastest route and I do my due diligence to sneak past people quickly and politely. The only reason that was even a moment was because 2 people grabbing my kayak... if they didn't yank on it I would of been gone sooner. I would argue that holding my boat puts me in more danger physically than anything else, akin to tripping a runner. I'm there to have fun; and I'm glad you all participated too. It's not my intention to offend you or put anyone in harms way.

@@LeeliPups maybe doing a race known for bumping and colliding isn't for you???

This race has been going on for 47 years and is designed as a COMMUNITY race that has racers of mostly mediocre (at best) canoeing and kayaking skills. Most of the racers are young and are out to have fun on an obstacle course. Although the other craft can turn into obstacles you have to maneuver around, as a polite racer you should attempt to avoid running into or over other craft if possible. Maybe sometimes the focus shouldn’t be so much on your time at the finish and you should pause and allow those already waiting to get safely around others to get around/over/under obstacles the right of way. The goal of any sport is to want others to join in and build up the sport, not give them negative feelings towards those that do competitively race. There is a time and place for everything.
