Emily. Thanks for the question. The answer is yes. The Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management care deeply about the well-being of wild horses, both on and off the range. In the U.S. the Bureau of Land Management protects and manages wild horses and burros in balance with other public resource values on 177 herd management areas across 26.9 million acres of public lands.

Yes there are several adoption events on our side of the US, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio many of the internet horses for sale can be picked up at future adoption events , look under pick up options. Just read the guidelines for adoption approval and pick up trailer requirements. go to blm.gov for the all the events. Hopefully they will reschedule those cancelled due to the Corona virus.

@BLMOREGON
@BLMOREGON 4 жыл бұрын
Cathy: Thanks for the note. The BLM does not send horses to slaughter. This charge is absolutely false. The Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management care deeply about the well-being of wild horses, both on and off the range, and it has been and remains the policy of the BLM not to sell or send wild horses or burros to slaughter. Consequently, as noted in a report issued in October 2008, the Government Accountability Office found the BLM not in compliance with a December 2004 amendment (the so-called Burns Amendment to the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act) that directs the Bureau to sell excess (unadopted or unsold) horses or burros “without limitation" to any willing buyer. Further information about the BLM's sales program. View a sample bill of sale. The bill of sale, among other things, states that the buyer agrees not to process any of the sold horses or burros into commercial products, or to knowingly sell or transfer ownership to any person or organization whose intent is to commercially process the animals.

that is what I watch a horses and auctions and specially Mustangs you guys were leased land and cattle ranchers understand the country's got to eat but the Rangers have their own land why can't the cattle graze off their property and let the Mustangs be their cattle is eating up the Mustangs food and drinking their water I mean I didn't have to work in by hopefully this summer I'll be able to. Me a few mustangs from one of your facility that is my dreams and I want to know if somebody like me could go straight to the facility and adopt them straight from the BLM

@rucerius4968
@rucerius4968 4 жыл бұрын
So long as the habit can support them, yes. The problem the BLM is facing is too many horses for the land to support. In 1971 a law was passed that prevents the outright killing of excess horses. Now they round them up and put them up for adoption. If they didn't do this the wild (actually feral since they are descendants of once domesticated animals) would over breed and wind up starving to death. Personally I think adopting out the excess horses is a great option.

A lot of these horses look to have Appaloosa blood in them which makes sense since the breed was developed and perfected by the Nez Perce` Indians who lived in the Palouse Valley (hence the name, "a Palouse horse" and later "Appaloosa.") of the Pacific Northwest. A common trait of Appaloosas can be a very sparse mane and/or tail so i'm sure no scissors touched these beauties!
