Dopey--I love the literary allusion--is no dope. Dopey is curious, and curiosity is a sign of intelligence.

Yes! I've had lots of fun bonding with Dopey and she has shown her intelligence and unique personality on different occasions. We shook hands (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaawg32Oi9Flp5Y) and I even found out where she likes being petted (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGi3pp2wibuDas0).

With every video I grow more amazed at the sophistication of their interactions. Look at Dopey's approach to the oats while Blaze is eating. It's like she doesn't want to interrupt her friend's eating but at the same time can't resist the delicious oats, so she compensates by stretching as long as se can and bringing as little of herself close to the oat feast! Then after her friend Blaze says "it's ok, c'mon over!" with her gentle facial expression and body posture, Dopey relaxes and brings the rest of herself in. in other videos, when the approval isn't there, the affected rabbit makes a very slight gesture or non-gesture resulting in the approaching rabbit recoiling dramatically, jumping and even running away to be forgiven for breach of etiquette especially when the affected rabbit is one of the Top Bunnies like Madame Bunny and Moira. Those two command a lot of respect from the other rabbits, maybe because they're such good mothers, but it's respect given willingly by the other rabbits -- never forced or _enforced_ by anyone. That's why Jack did not retreat from Moira in the "stretching" video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJyWZYp6p5KGbKs -- he took advantage that following rules is voluntary, and got his face into Moira's despite her obvious disapproval and downright unhappiness. Moira instead ends up getting off the concrete block letting Jack have it, BUT she then sneaks from behind and without looking angry sniffs Jack's foot, and THIS gets Jack's to take off like a rocket, apparently FINALY getting her message, lol! The fact that WE can tell what's going on is because WE have similar ways to interact and can read an almost imperceptible facial expression and react to it: we use non-verbal communication just like rabbits! Recent genetic analysis of mammalian lineages has placed the Order Lagomorpha of rabbits, hares and pikas right next to the Order Primates of humans, apes and monkeys. Could this close genetic relationship have to do with why we resonate so much with them and understand their complex personalities, interactions and emotions? They can even be "demure", "give you the cold shoulder" and WE even have names for these gestures!

You observe closely and analyze astutely. You are a master of rabbit psychology and sociology.

@dubistverrueckt Your analysis and observation of our bunnies amazes me! It is exactly what I want to deliver with videos on this channel without having to "lecture" or educate what wild rabbits are like: watch their interactions and you'd be able to understand rabbit psychology and sociology over time, and eventually you can tell each individual's social hierarchy and why they react certain ways. Reading their micro-expressions is my favorite, and your observation here is just spot-on! The close genetic relationship between rabbits and humans you mentioned is fascinating and I totally agree that's why we can relate to rabbits' behaviors and dramas so much. Thank you for sharing your perspective. I really enjoy reading your comments.

did they learn to drink water from the bottle?
@WildTexasBunnies3 жыл бұрын
I've only seen one of them using it. We got the water bottle thinking it would keep water cleaner over time, but we realized they enjoy drinking from a big bowl a lot more and that's really how rabbits are supposed to enjoy water. ;)

Aren't you the funny one...:P I do wonder if that's why some new viewers have a hard time believing they're wild.
