Recently i started playing garen but i dont like to build it like others full tank i like to do some dmg is that bad?

I think Garen full tank build it not good but it's good sometimes when no tank in team. For my opinion if you win the lane, you can build damage items because it helps to kill adc or mage enemy immediately.
