This was the ORIGINAL three-chord banger that every garage band in every high school in America was covering by 1967. The only other 3-chord banger than comes close in its impact is "Gloria". Oh, and the instrument in the break is an Ocarina -- itself made hip and famous by this tune. In my childhood, a plastic Ocarina was a child's toy that all of us had and played when we were about 8. The instrument itself is incredibly old -- 12,000 years according to Wikipedia.

My favorite parts are the pauses. When he sings..." you move me" and then there's a pause for about 2 beats and then the guitar comes in again. That's a perfect example of letting the notes (or moment in the song) breathe. Miles Davis and Keith Richard have said that's key to great songwriting. Know when to let the notes breathe...a song doesn't have to have a constant wall of sound from beginning to end. Great, classic, and ageless song...thanks for playing it guys!!

It has been covered many times, but probably the most iconic cover is the Hendrix performance at Monterey.

@platonicdescartes I remember that, but the 9 minute jam by Aussie band Cold Chisel from their 1983 "Last Stand" gigs takes the prize for me personally.

I had the 45 of this. I was probably 12 when I first heard it (late 60s). Love this song!

The Troggs have a lot of good tunes.

I SWEAR, just yesterday I was watching a YT video of the top hits of 1966 and the first song was 'WILD THING' and I thought, "I wonder if Alex and Andy have reacted to this" and here you are reacting to it!

Wild Thing cover by Cold Chisel live is something to behold. You must sample it

A total rock and roll standard. Every garage band, every covers band, every bar band has had this song somewhere in their set. My band has been playing it for forty years. My lead guitarist / vocalist always does a Peter Wolf-type fast talk introduction to it, always making it as racy as possible without stepping over the line of "good taste". LOL! He always ends it with, "Wild thing, I think I love you!" That's the band's cue to start rocking.
