I love 101 and rare breed is currently my favourite, I can get 101 around £30 and rb at £50, for me the extra £20 is worth it. In the UK its even harder to get some of the bourbons that you review, I have a bookers 2020-01E still unopened that was £75. ECBP is around £110 + but would love to try it if I can. Love the channel, I watch a few but I like the fact that you seem sincere & honest 👍🏻

Wife and I are fans of the entire Wild Turkey line, the 101 is a legend, while the Rare Breed kicks it up a notch. WT also offers the same line in a rye: standard, 101 and Rare Breed.

Enjoyed the video, Drew! Just two things of note. The distillery wasn't called Boulevard until after Pernod Ricard's purchase of the distillery and brand in 1980. A French thing, I suppose. Rare Breed isn't one large batch. It's batched frequently throughout the year, they just shoot at or above 116.8 proof when batching (within two proof points above). Then, they add what little water is necessary to bottle at 116.8 proof per ATF 79-9 (the legal definition of "barrel proof"). Oh, and if you think that 101 isn't your profile, I have a challenge for you. Throw it in a blind with some favorites of similar age and proof. You might just be surprised! Cheers! dj

Big fan of 101 and Russels 10. Rare Breed is next on my list, but funny enough I don’t feel the urgency to pick it up because......to echo your point.....it’s easy to find. Any decent store has it on their shelf, so I’m like “hmmm maybe next time”.

The first time I had Rare Breed was after visiting the Wild Turkey distillery in 2019...bought it from the gift shop and opened it on on that vacation in Kentucky. I've been a fan since and sing it's praises as much as I can :) Nice video, man, and congrats on the new baby!

I have tried a lot brands in the past, except for mixers WT is pretty much my go to. Funny thing is I hear everybody talk about all the different flavors they taste. All I seem to get is the wood. I use to be able tell brands apart because of the wood flavors, after chemo I lost the sensitivity to tell the difference.

People pay big money for 8 year age stated 101 from overseas (still widely available in Japan), but Kentucky Spirit is always at least 8 years old and just sits on the shelf.

I jumped back into my bourbon journey a few months ago (have been a Scotch guy for close to a decade), and I’ve gotta say... Rare Breed is phenomenal. One of my very regular pours. It’s shocking to me that it’s still as accessible as it is. I can literally find at least a bottle almost everywhere I go, and it absolutely trumps many bottles listed at double the price. God bless Wild Turkey for keeping this thing open to the masses. It’s a hitter.

Rare Breed was my first barrel proof whiskey that I ever tried. I was blown away and began searching for other barrel proof whiskeys. I haven’t found many that measure up.

Wild Turkey is great. I have a wide collection and I drink around, so I don't really stay loyal to any one distillery. But, I have Rare Breed and Russell's Reserve (both 10 and SB) on my shelf at all times, though, and they're auto rebuys for me.

First time I heard of Wild Turkey was back in 82 when I saw First Blood in the theater. A few days later I ordered one in a bar... wasn't impressed. I didn't try it again until early 2020. Definitely improved and I like it now but, for budget proofy Bourbons I lean towards Knob Creek 100 or Old Forester 100.

Value is based on the individual palate. They are all good in their own ways. My choices are based on mood and/or if I am eating something at the same time. Elijah Craig - I pair with quality dark chocolate. Wild Turkey - Rosemary or cracked black pepper crackers with Gouda cheese.

Lower entry proof doesn't necessarily make better whiskey, but it does make different whiskey. There are both water soluble and alcohol soluble compounds in the oak. Changing the ratio of water to alcohol changes what gets dissolved from the wood.

Wild Turkey is my go to bourbon for sure. I always like to have a bottle of 101 tucked away somewhere and I just recently bought a bottle of Rare Breed and I’m really loving the added complexity the higher proof gives 🥃 I’m in the UK so we have less readily available choice when it comes to bourbon compared to the US and we generally pay a lot more for what we do get. For example 101 is the equivalent of $30 to $40 for a 70cl bottle here. I got the bottle of Rare Breed for half price but it’s usually around $80 a bottle here 💸

(1) Which ECBP did you match up? I find there is a lot of variation in flavor and some batches are heaven in a glass, unfair to compare to much else at that price point. (2) For Jim Beam I prefer the Knob Creek Store Picks at 120 P over Bookers, better value and often better flavor. Overall, agree that Wild Turkey is keeping it real, but don't forget the love for Old Forester (1920)!

I too am not a big fan of the Wild Turkey flavor profile, but I love the Rare Breed. The last bottle I bought came after going to three or four stores, so yeah, attention is being paid. We all like to search and hope we stumble on one of the holy grails of brown water, but that ignores all the great bourbons that are sitting right there on the shelves waiting for our attention and dollars. Just not Wild Turkey 101 cause big mouths like you and Jason C. are blabbing and telling the world how good this juice is! Thanks for nothing, Drew P. Whiskey! Congrats on the newbie baby.
