Welcome to my first EVER playthrough of TOMB RAIDER - the originals.
Tomb Raider was one of, if not THE first game that I've ever seen, watching my father play it on PC when I was little, sitting on his lap together with my brother. I was excited to have a good excuse to finally play these games myself with the release of the Remaster!
In 2022 I played the three newest Tomb Raider games, but I always preferred the iconic look of the OGs - the red glasses, two pistols and the long braid.

Someone probably already said it, but to clarify some things about this level. Madubu Gorge was always a tough one to beat back in the day, not because of the camera, but because you have to perform precise jumps, learn to control the kayak whilst fighting against the current to avoid dangerous paths, and survive a lot of deadly traps while climbing all the way back. But all of this is manageable with the tank controls because the camera is always fixed on your back, unfortunately with the modern controls the camera is constantly fighting the walls making the experience worse. And it's also an issue when the perspective changes because when you get a different angle it's gonna f* up the modern controls, unlike the original where "up" in the d-pad is always forward. I really hope that most people will understand that the problem is on this new set of controls that they introduced, and not the original game.

I think that trying to add modern controls to these older grid-based TR games just makes the games waaaay harder than they should be. None of those problems that you experienced trying to make her go where you want her to go while holding on the ceiling existed before these controls were added. You have done an impressive job playing these games using them though! I love watching your vids.

Madubu Gorge. One of the very best classic Tomb Raider levels. Looks gorgeous in the remaster. Axmania has this level at number one in his all-time favourite levels list. It's definitely top 5 for me.

The fact that you were able to manage to go this far in TR3 with modern controls, considering that modern controls are a lot harder than tank controls because the camera used to stay still on tank controls way back in its OG released in '98, and that the game's geometry wasn't build for modern controls, and also the fact that TR3 is the hardest Tomb Raider game ever, shows how great of a gamer you are Lizz!!!! ❤❤❤😊 I followed you when you were playing Hogwarts Legacy and never in my wildest dreams that you're going to tackle my favorite franchise ever, not to mention my favorite TR game ever, because I always thought that modern gamers wouldn't love these games as they're hard. But you really reallllly reallllly impressed me so much!!!! ❤❤❤😊

I enjoy these games a LOT and want to play the other TR games as well (not immediately after this trilogy, but as soon as the new releases I'm interested in offer a gap for them). I honestly struggled quite a lot in the Pacific area with the camera changing controls every 1-2 seconds in tricky sections, especially when shimmying on the ceiling. I'm very sorry for being so frustrated in some sections, I just can't help it. I know it's a modern-controls thing, but I don't blame the controls. I blame the camera. It just needs some tweaking.

The camera in the original games could be problematic too, but I prefer it to this style where the camera moves on its own, and the controls change. In the originals, the camera tries to stay behind Lara, if there's room enough. However, when there isn't room enough behind her, the camera will move to the side. It's like the camera is mounted on a flexible pole, which is attached to the back of Lara's head. If she's in an open area, there's plenty of room behind her and the camera pole is straight. However, when she's in a tight space and there isn't room enough behind her, the camera pole will bend to the side, with the degree of bending being determined by how little room there is. Get her back near a wall and the camera will be on an angle, but put her back right up to a wall and the camera will be directly to her side.Sometimes, if you turn her back and forth a little in a tight space, the camera will flip from one side to the other, and sometimes you can't even see Lara, just a view of the wall. Fortunately, there's always the look button.

usually in the modern controls, the camera also says behind her when there is room, but whenever there is a small, tight area or things it can collide with.. it's all messed up hahah. In some situations it helps to use LOOK to re-center the cam, but when you are chased by a boulder and suddenly the camera changes, it's useless, as it stops her.. I just hope for future players that they're going to fix it.

Really enjoyed watching you play the 3 games in a row now. I do however still wonder why Lara can't climb surfaces with a somewhat steeper slope, but has no issue with climbing vertically, dangling, shimmying 😛 seems a bit unrealistic to me, but it's probably what makes the platforming more fun/interesting

Great run Lizzy, really looking forwards to the next one...dayem, sooo could relate to your frustration with the canoe, its almost as if the player can only have 'partial' control over its maneuvering. The developers must be laughing at us 1 What should be furn and exciting can often become really annoying when your controller appears redundant !!!!!!!!! Thank you for the great uploads xx

Someone in the comments said you can control the kayak (closed top, double paddle) with WALK + left/right to turn it.. Which would have been very helpful for me But I was already done with that section when I read it. Also, it's Lizz, not Lizzy

TR3 new game plus is basically a harder version of the PS1 game. Same save system as PS1, no medipacks, tougher enemies, etc.

Madubu Gorge looks phenomenal in the remaster. Gorgeous :P The kayak animation is the wrong way around. Paddle thrust on the left should result in a turn right, not a turn left.

I've only ever done Madubu Gorge level from the other boat house. I did find the boat house from this video once, but I restarted the level and went the other way.

@@LIZZgame Some levels (not all levels), in TR3, split into 2 distinct paths at some point in the level. To get all the secrets in a level that splits in 2 you have to take the slightly harder path. If you go on the slightly easier path you cannot find all secrets in that level. On Madubu Gorge when you jump across the river, go left, down to a save crystal then monkey swing back across the river. You eventually reach another boat house. This route is the harder route. There's a trophy/achievement on PS/Xbox for finding each of the two boat houses. Remember on level 3, River Ganges, when you came to a door with the switch on the other side of the door ?? (At 14:20 on part 3 of this series). Just after that the level splits. You went left on the slightly harder path where some of the secrets are. If you had gone right, you can complete the level but you cannot get all the secrets. The secrets in TR3 are harder to find than they are in TR1 and TR2. Loads of replay value in these games.

That's a good tip, especially for when the kayak is not facing in a forward direction. It tells you this move in the manual; something which is sadly lacking from these remasters. A bit of an oversight from the remaster devs.

I know I already commented, but wait a minute. If what you want is forward being Lara's forward, left Lara's left and so on regardless of camera angle... why don't you play with classic controls, which do exactly that? Sure, you need use the look around button to move the camera and see, but that's the only difference. And indeed, as games went on in the series, they sorta relied on the fact that movements were precise even if the camera wasn't.

there is a lot more different than just "look". All I wanted was a good camera, and that the sudden changed camera angles won't change the controls that were fine up to that point, but then got messed up for a few frames, which often got me killed. They did release a patch to fix that, but sadly I finished the trilogy one day before that.

I guess it's a tad too late, but I have no idea why she puts away her weapons like that. She never did it in the original, nor in this when I played with tank controls. Either it's a bug of the modern controls, or something's odd in your controller.

@@LIZZgame I think what they mean is why Lara keeps putting her guns away in the middle of fights. You even commented on it with the shotgun, that she's constantly putting it away and having to take it out again. In the original games, and maybe with the tank controls, once she draws a weapon, it stays in her hands until you tell her to put it away. To be honest, I'd wondered about that myself.
