in terms of the hunting mechanics of the game, i find that it'd be pretty difficult to have Arthur haul around hundreds of pounds of animal flesh and antlers. especially considering his only mode of transport is a horse or a stolen wagon. it'd be pretty cool if the game let us buy the hunting wagons in singleplayer so we would have a place to store them for easy transportation. i imagine having Arthur only take a handful of meat and the skin was just a technical limitation.

To be fair to the prices for weapons and ammo, it's a video game, and money's not very hard to come by. You shoot tons of people throughout the story, and most people in those fights tend to carry at least a few dollars on them, along with some kind of valuable you can sell. A lot of story missions also involve robbing someone or something. So, money's a lot more common in the game than would be in real life. So they'd have to raise the prices to make obtaining every weapon at least somewhat challenging. As for the animations of skinning an animal. I'm pretty sure they weren't worried about showing the process. More so that they didn't want the animation to go on too long. It's already a fairly long animation in terms of a video game, and it gets a tad old seeing it every time, especially if you're specifically out in the world to hunt, and you have to sit and watch it over, and over again. Even the weapon reload animations, while fairly accurate, have some inaccuracies for the sake of speeding the animation up.

If you're ever able to I highly recommend going to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody Wyoming. It's one of the best museums I've ever seen and in terms of specifically history of the American West it's second to none. Their firearms gallery is a sight to behold. Close by in Cody is also the Cody Dug Up Gun Museum which is also a fascinating and unique collection very much worth the visit. Cody is basically the gateway to Yellowstone Park from Wyoming too so if you ever find yourself going to magnificent Yellowstone spend a day in Cody.

I've been there too. The gun collection is so huge it's really overwhelming - they all start looking alike after not very long. They have lots of other great exhibits too and you can see all the museum on the same admission. When I went, I actually stayed in Cody and drove to Yellowstone. Cody is great to stay in and the only "normal" town in the area - everything else is camping or touristy with limited resources. Just beware that it's 45 min from Cody, WY to the gate of Yellowstone and another 45 min to Old Faithful.

Hunting in red dead redemption 2 is painful as you cannot just hit the animal just anywhere, but its moer like you need a specific weapon with a specific ammo and so few animals will have something more and you need to shoot a specific animal for a pelt worth anything and hit it in a specific place ot not damage the pelt. You could spend hours finding a singular high quality animal. Now this is assuming the animal doesn't despawn while you are following its track.

never heard of a deer attacking someone before? deer can mess someone up and thats not even with just the antlers they usually will rear up and beat you with their hooves deer have even been known to trample dogs and cats that get too close for comfort, it's almost always because people or pets get too close to them and not a random unprovoked attack, most people probably don't see the body language as defensive as it's not as in your face as an angry dog or cat with lots of growling and hissing, an angry defensive deer will have ears dropped, slow steady walk with heavy steps towards you with its head lowered slightly antlers pointed at you if its a buck head up if its a doe, as well as hair standing up and a tail that's tucked in towards the body. people who are attacked by deer will often have broken bones most common are broken ribs which often accompanied by punctured lungs, they usually are timid and will run but don't assume all deer will do that, bucks are especially aggressive during rut and will not only attack other bucks to keep all the does to himself but potentially anything that is intruding on its territory
