Agreed. The producers intended to show the social repercussion in a general way those years. The point is not the Osho's philosophy, but the consequences of his arrival in the U.S. We need empathy and rational thinking, like the moment context they are living in the 80's etc... We all know the U.S., today, has no only Christians, but budha's followers, atheists, spiritists, and other beliefs. The only thing I'm really sure to say is both sides are the only ones to have the authorithy to relate their experiences. We must be less passional and more rational in documentaries like this.

I am from India and i love Osho more than anything else because no matter how much controversy he created 40 years back but i must say he has tremendous understanding and knowledge of what life exactly is and spirituality he gave me the real meaning of spirituality. What I will say is that the whole experiment of Rajneeshpuram was awesome beyond most peoples capacity to understand. I watched the whole series. There are major gaps. No mention of Osho being asked to sign in as “David Washington” in a jail in Oklahoma. No mention of Osho being poisoned with thallium while in jail or toxicology confirmation of heavy metal poisoning from samples sent to a lab in London. They did show that the trip from North Carolina to Portland, Oregon took weeks. There was no mention of the actual plea Osho made. They show several people saying they were glad Osho pleaded guilty. The actual plea was an Alford plea, a guilty plea by a defendant who claims to be innocent. Finally, they jumped from deportation to Pune Two, omitting that Osho was refused entry or forcibly removed from 21 countries (“the world tour”) before returning to India.

Watching this documentary right now and so far it's really gripping. They really show you and they don't tell you what happened. You can form your own opinion based on your own knowledge and world view. If you watch objectively - you never know who will be the villain or the hero of even anti-hero in every scene. I find myself forever in the middle not being able to take a side. And that in essence is the beauty of this documentary. It leaves me questioning what is fact or fiction RE this story in history. Just shows. Humans are complex and there is no right or wrong answer. No black or white. We are human. We are complex creatures.

One of my biggest takeaways from the show is how incredibly competent Sheela seemed to be at organizing and getting things done. Unless there was alot they didn't show of leadership, in 4 years she blew that thing up bigtime, while Osho was a recluse. A town, medical lab ,police force, self-sustaining (likely by people turning over all their possessions ala Scientology), but still. She seems like a very competent women, but too arrogant and a ignorant of how to work with competing interests. A leader like her will build like mad, but rub others the wrong way, when they prick her, she will prick back twice, and the spiral of violence will continue to one group is defeated. She's ignorant in that way, but definitely smart in others. A savvy leader would have worked with the locals, understood what tehy wanted, helped to give what they wanted and make friends of them, then the county, then the state. They cuold have built somethign much larger, but their ego got in the way. Townspeople could hear couples having sex day and night, see them out in the open. That's not how you manage growth. You have places and ways to express somethings. You don't swamp a town people people all in 'uniforms', that creates fear, worry. Everyone has seen deadly cults come and go. You say you are different? ACT different. Prove you are different. Engage the world you live in, and learn how to accommodate your culture with others, and respect each other. Yes they had a handful of 40 bigots around, or maybe just fearful ignorant people, but trying to screw them was not 'smart' leadership. They would have been easy to win over with more nuanced leadership.

The interviews were the compelling part of the film and those weren’t taken from Wikipedia, . And it was done without it being one-sided. But you obviously have a hard time accepting the negative side to the Rajneesh commune. If you watched it through, you see that it was left open ended...there was no winner in this. If anything it is a very appropriate time to be talking about this as we are most divided... and you seem to be someone who would give rise to our division. If you truly believe that he wasn't leading that whole operation, you are very naive. That whole vowel of silence thing was just the equivalent of a mafia boss. Only speak to one person or a handful of trusted people, and that way there it is a lot less likely for evidence to leak out. Plus it leaves him with a scapegoat, which he used, but he wasn't expecting Sheela to do a runner, and that pisse him off. That whole thing of growing and taking over the state and USA, was planned from the beginning, the strategies changed, as different reactions and problems occured, but that was most certainly the plan from the beginning. They failed in India, yet they thought they could use the USA legal system to have success in the states. They thought they were much more intelligent than they really were, and had extreme delusions of grandeur, particularly Sheela. She Wasn't an idiot, but she really wasn't that intelligent either, which is why they failed miserably. I know Iq isn't everything, but with Sheela you'r talking about someone with probably a 120 IQ or less, max 130, yet she thought she was some Indian Einstein.
