Fingers crossed should be visiting some time this summer

Me too - ideally sometime before the start of midge season, although that doesn't look too likely just now!

Charlie A 11 minutes ago Stunning scenery and no other people. Heaven! Shame its a 12hr drive from down here! I posted a comment on your latest sandwood bay vid with an interesting link to a couple of aircraft landings there but I think yt has blocked it?
@Corkwing-DougK3 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie - glad you enjoyed the video. Your original comment came through on an email, as YT drops me a notification of any new comments - but then never appeared on the video comments list. It's not being held for approval or anything like that, so I don't know what happened to it. I've seen this a couple of times before, where comments simply vanish for no reason and it looks like an annoying YT "feature". I actually saw and photographed that Spitfire engine myself a few years ago just lying on the beach and checked out the story behind it. I've not seen it since but it will no doubt resurface at some point.

Hi Doug, Lovely video! 👍Loved watching it. I've been a few times to Sandwood Bay. My first visit was in 1990 and then again in September 1996. Stopped going there after that as had a rather bad ghostly experience! Went again in 2021 , 25 years later, and thankfully didn't get spooked this time. After my bad experience in 1996 I read up on the ghost stories surrounding Sandwood Bay. Just wondering if you had experienced or heard of similar ghostly experiences around Sandwood Bay. Thanks Doug. Ray 😊

Twas a feature of the fishing this time. I've honestly no idea why I should be surprised by a bit of weed floating around after some late summer gales, but I guess I've tended to fish there earlier in the year before the weed grows in the first place.

Sometimes it's not about the fish, it's about the fishing. Great weather and the location is sublime. Remind me how long the hike is to get there. 5miles rings a bell.
@Corkwing-DougK6 жыл бұрын
A little less to the main bay, a little more to where I was (plus a river and a hill or two!). The trail in is very well maintained by the John Muir Trust nowadays so it's not a difficult hike. However, head much further north towards Cape Wrath and it's everyone for themselves with no real path at all.

@@Corkwing-DougK I Fish around Findhorn and Lossie. Never caught a bass yet or a weaver, congrats on that. And I've never caught a sea trout in the sea. Love the red cod at Potrnocky tough.
@Corkwing-DougK6 жыл бұрын
There will definitely be bass about there, on crab or lug, and probably better as it gets dark. My brother in law has a small farm near Findhorn, and we occasionally fished the Muckle Burn for finnock and sea trout. One afternoon he was too busy to come down with me (harvest time), and I'd a couple of hours to myself in nice high water conditions. His face was a picture when I produced two grilse, as he hadn't had even one in several decades of fishing there. Years ago now, and just dumb luck on my part, but my sister couldn't stop laughing when she saw them.

@@Corkwing-DougK cant get over the fact that you've fished the Muckle burn. Small world or what.

Hi Doug, I've just stumbled across this. I used to come out fishing with you through the IAC. I'm living up in Ullapool now. Is there any way of getting in touch not on here? Would be good to have a catch up. Great video btw. All the best. Paul
@Corkwing-DougK6 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, Yeah, I remember some nice trips with you before found some wilderness of your own! Are you still a boat ride away from Ullapool, or did the bright lights prove irresistible? Probably the easiest way to get me without plastering email addresses around in public is to pop a comment on my blog - corkwing.co.uk. Assuming you don't annoy the spam filter too much, then I'll get your details from that but it doesn't get published.Cheers,Doug

Loving your videos Doug , some truly stunning locations. Makes me want to trailer my boat up to bonnie Scotland . BTW what camera are you using , it captures the colours superbly. Looking forward to more vids 👍
@Corkwing-DougK6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, I've not yet taken my own boat up there yet as it's a very long haul even for me and there aren't all that many slips. Maybe next year! I've just been using my phone for the recent videos - Samsung Galaxy S7. I've also used a little Yi Go Pro copy from time to time, which will handle a dunking better.

@Corkwing-DougK4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, Dreams are definitely worth hanging on to, especially just now! You might be surprised at the places you can find closer to home though. Perhaps think about joining the scouts or something similar - most troops will organise hiking and camping trips. If you haven't found it already then have a look at Alastair Humphreys micro-adventures channel on KZbin, as there's some good ideas on there too. Cheers, Doug

What were you using as bait bro' ?
@Corkwing-DougK5 жыл бұрын
Peeler crab for the bass and thin mackerel strips for the sea trout. Mackerel strip also works for the flatties, but not on this trip.
