Hi Mike I really enjoyed you take of your experience with the show. I watch skyart landscape of the year when it comes available here.I am in northern British Columbia Canada in a small community near Quesnel, I paint in watercolour. Just had my first solo show ever! So I love seeing all about other artists and really enjoyed this video,thanks

Thanks very much Sharilee, glad you enjoyed the video and congratulations on your solo exhibition! Do you have a website for your art work? I've been doing more watercolour of late and have really enjoyed re-discovering the medium. The Sky show was great fun, hope to take part in the future but we'll see how it goes! :-)

Hi ! I really loved this video ! I love watch Landscape Artist of the Year and also Portrait Artist of the year ! This behind the scenes video is great ! I really liked your Thumbnail sketches ! They always fascinate me ! The way you cropped your painting was great ! I was just thinking about a crop and there it was ! My former art tutor was always trying options of covering parts of our works when he thought necessary and I loved that as sometimes removing a couple of inches from a painting works wonders ! I liked the part with the sailing boat as I love boats very much and also the sketch with the ship ! Well, sincere Thank You once again for sharing this ! I truly appreciate watching ! Sincerely Lorraine. 🤗👍🎨

Thanks Lorraine, glad you enjoyed the video. The landscape show was such good fun and there's a real sense of community among the wild card artists. Hope to take part again in the future. Totally agree about cropping, it can make all the difference, I often crop things in different ways and then offer different versions of the same painting as prints. It's a nice way to be creative right at the very end of the artistic process.

I liked the version of your painting that you showed first without the little boat, but the painting all round was good, and I think your textured areas were really good. Thank you for sharing your experience of being on the art show, I hope you get to be in another one. Cheers from Australia!

Thanks very much for watching, glad you liked the video and painting. It was a really fun and unique day, hope to give it another go if I get the chance. Do they show Landscape Artist of the Year in Australia?
@howlingwind19374 жыл бұрын
@@MikeJoryArt I hope you do get chosen for another sky landscape or portrait of the year. I think it's on fox or sky you know those satellite tv or pay tv stations. I don't have any of those as I live off grid so can't run the satellite box thingy, I've been watching them on youtube though, I'm currently waiting for episode 3 of the portrait one. I'm in the process of trying to teach myself how to do portraits, with mixed results, I also like the landscape one and theres a celebrity portrait one as well where they get well known people to do portraits,it's quite good fun that one, and theres another one where they have celebrities do all sorts of art and they spend 10 weeks I think and they get eliminated one by one. Thank you for a reply, I hope you really do get a chance at being on one of the shows. Cheers from Australia!

@@howlingwind1937 glad to hear that you can get the shows over there. The deadline for the portrait one is this Thursday so not sure if I can make it but hopefully will get an application in. We'll see how the week goes... Thanks again for watching, much appreciated.

@@howlingwind1937 hello from Italy. I’ve tried searching KZbin but I’ve never found episodes of these programmes. Any advice?
@howlingwind19374 жыл бұрын
@@loretacolantonio7398 type in the search (the little magnifying glass) sky arts or sky arts awards, that's how I found them, they do a landscape competition also which I'm waiting to appear, don't forget to like them when you find them because then it's easier to find next time. Or I guess you could try typing in cherzo that's the person or company that appears in the title with the art thing being in the subject. I hope this helps. Cheers!

@@MikeJoryArt Thanks a lot! Really appreciated you taking the time to reply Mike. I must admit I'm getting ahead of myself with excitement of applying haha. My only question, if I get on the show, would be the ideal size of paper? I noticed you did A2 'portrait' then wished you had selected two smaller 'landscape' areas, therefore I assume A3 would be your preference? The assumption would be the bigger the better to try stand out and impress but then your putting time pressure on yourself to complete in the 4 hrs?
@MikeJoryArt4 жыл бұрын
For me, it wasn't so much the size of paper, more about the composition. I think I would have stuck with A2 but turned it on its side and then worked on a more zoomed in composition. This would have made things less fiddley for me. I definitely underestimated how bad the weather would be and how tired I would be as the day went on. I think the best approach would be to assume you'll get about 2.5 hours of useful painting in, then if the weather and /or energy levels are better than expected all to the good! 🙂
@Chiller-zh5nc4 жыл бұрын
@@MikeJoryArt That's really helpful information Mike, so good to get a behind the scenes perspective of what happens to an artist on the day. Plus to hear you don't get the full 4 hrs, I was always thinking they gave people longer as everyone always looks like they've finished just in time! Haha. The amount of things to think about and take on the day mounts up when you also have the poor weather, must have been frustrating and even more impressive in the quality of your finished piece.
@MikeJoryArt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much, it was still a great time even with the weather. They do give artists the full 4 hours, I just meant that bad weather may rob you of some of that, though some artists kept painting throughout the rain! :-)

I have come to admire all the artists who do it. So many, like myself, dont get down….I put it off and stab and stop. Bunch of stupid! For decades. Im defective! Even if I dont like an art work, somebody will, and the artist who did it still has my huge respect. Not implying an opinion on your art….havent gotten that far in to the video yet.
