Wow made it look easy! A note about the guys hat: with the sides curved up you get a bit of a parabola effect, enhancing hearing. With the brim curved up in the back it stays out of the way of headrests in vehicles and backpacks on trails. Based in the dessert, the hat obviously helps shad him and he made a paracord hatband adding utility. One can also spray permethrin on the brim to discourage mosquitos. I like a light colored hat brim on top reflect light and a dark underside to reduce glare.

+Rakadis Yes,as a Canadian.fellow"Eskimo"I understand. About using Pine needles to make a tea rich in vitamin c.:That's great but PLEASE DONT MISTAKE A CEDAR TREE FOR A PINE TREE.PRETTY WELL EVERYTHING FROM PINE TREE IS EDIBLE.HOWEVER EVERYTHING FROM A CEDAR TREE IS POISON.HERE'S HOW YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE.PINE TREES HAVE SHORT CONES.CEDAR TREES HAVE LONG CONES.Also you should know that the soft inner bark of pine trees,maple trees and birch tree are edible starches.However the soft inner barks of these trees have to be boiled at least twice to remove the tannin from them.otherwize eating soft inner bark from these trees is much too bitter.Also the soft inner bark of these trees (not cedar trees,please remember they're poison) should be cut into strips and eaten like spaghetti.Also underneath Pine trees on the ground you'll find hanging around the Pine cones lots of PINE NUTS.PINE NUTS ARE COMPLETELY EDIBLE HOWEVER YOU SHOUD BOIL THEM TO DISINFECT THEM SINCE SQUIRRELS AND OTHER ANIMALS (SOME OF WHOM COULD BE RABID) HAVE BEEN RUMMAGING AROUND THEM.PLEASE REMEMBER THAT MAPLE SEEDS FROM MAPLE TREES ARE ALSO EDIBLE BUT THEY HAVE TO BE BOILED AT LEAST TWO TIMES T GET THE TANNIN OUT OF THEM.HOWEVER ONCE THEY'VE BEEN BOILED A COUPLE TIMES THEY CAN BE SALTED LIGHTLY AND EATEN LIKE PEANUTS. SAME GOES FOR PINE NUTS.

I am back to watch these four great videos once more. Are there any more to see? I do have a few questions though. How do you secure your cottonwood root? Is the tree dead or do you simply dig down and remove a portion of root? Same question for the yucca root. Thank you for your response in advance.

i dont know what region you guys are from, but having roof over your head is really overrated especially in places where rain is not common. i would rather have wall to protect from wind and insulation from the ground instead of having just a roof. have you guys tested a poncho tarp setup in a rainstorm ? you have to have at least 10x10ft tarp and put it fairly close to the ground if u dont want to get wet. with winds it doesnt rain straight. you need to stay at least 2ft away from corners of the tarp to stay dry.
@TJackSurvival8 жыл бұрын
They spend about a month at a time living like this while teaching students. I think they've got it covered, as the roof also blocks rain and the duff layer insulates you from the ground.
@maisetas8 жыл бұрын
+TJack Survival you know, that kind of roof would only help in emergency situation to protect against rain in very very uncomfy night or to stay dry if rain comes in while hiking, this is aint gonna do no good if you are camping more than 2 days. if it pours down on you for entire day, you will be wet as hell unless you sit straight in the middle of this setup.

When the ladies talking about how to test for edible plants that's bull you do not do what she just said yes you rub it on your wrist or basically soft skin underarms type thing if no problems cook it two changes of water minimum small thing in your mouth to spit if any problems discard is edible plant if no problems another small bit very small chew swallow if any problems discard but you must cook it do not eat it raw there are some plants that raw is very toxic very poisonous but will not cause you problems until you swallow it 90% of plants that have poison the poison is destroyed by cooking there are very few that will persist in the poison I eat rhubarb leaves don't eat rhubarb leaves cooked or raw
