My wife and I moved back to my home state after years of putting up with forest fires in northern California. The last fire came within a mile of our home after it had destroyed over 1,000 homes. A number of people lost their lives. You can't believe how fast these fires can travel.

Over a million tourists a year visit Ruidoso NM it is a resort town with lots of cabins and condos, plus resorts, skiing, and horse racetrack. Pray for the animals too, so little time to evacuate

I fought fire for 13 years on minimal wages, which aren't enough to make it worthwhile today. Now we have a shortage of fire fighters. Support giving them a living wage, or get yourself a pulaski and a fire shirt.

@@jarniwoop I had to look that "god" up. I responded to "praying" which people keep posting almost always about the Jewish god of Abraham worshiped by Jews, Christians and Muslims. The god that works in mysterious ways. The god that sees (allegedly) Ruidoso burning and is either indifferent or enjoys the suffering. Either way you will get the same results praying to that god as you would praying to a tree in your backyard.

Us in Roswell are doing our best to help out all evacuees. My church home, Church on the Move is one of many places offering refuge to people who have been forced from their home. We have accommodations in the main sanctuary as well as clothes, shoes, toiletries, blanket, pillows, food, and water. Was there serving today and was able to help out. It is so sad seeing so many people displaced from their homes but we are continuing to pray for New Mexico and are doing our best to provide exceptional hospitality and support to all evacuees out of the Ruidoso area.

People are being told to leave their homes when a wildfire approaches, why? Because people live in areas that are wildfire hazards. Build your house in the forest under the trees is like piling kindling over your property. Men who run away to percieved safety with the women and children then watch their house burn down because they were too cowardly or lazy to pick up a garden hose. These houses burn most times from embers in the attic or roof gutters that can easily be extinguised with a garden hose. I've seen many many times being in the fire service 36 years.
