I found some pinewoods milkweed growing wild on my property this week, the leaves are so pretty! Didn't realize it was a milkweed until I got it identified.

Hi! Thank you for this info! I’m super excited as when I go outside to my wild Florida garden…. I’m being swarmed by mostly swallow tails! Polydamas for sure, I think palamedes. Also zebra long wings. And gulf fritillary’s! It’s such a joy to take a coffee walk through the garden in the morning!

I went to ace got tropical milkweed bc of a ace employee telling me it was a good one. Decided to keep the caterpillar that was on it and take it back and get swamp milk weed instead. Someone there told me they only had tropical but they had 3 swamp milk weeds left. A lot of tropical milk weed though.

Interesting. At first I thought it was thin leaf milkweed. I have some and it produces pink flowers that have a nice light sent to them. It does die back during winter in zone 8b Florida.

We have over 20 types of native milkweed here in Florida. And Aquatic milkweed is often called white swamp milkweed which has tinges of pink on it.

Would it adapt to grow without soil, in a bog filter filled with pea pebbles?

I haven't been able to go to Wilcox's to get my swamp milkweed this year 😭

Little Red Wagon usually has a large stock too. Wilcox can be hit or miss.

I planted swamp milkweed, common milkweed and butterfly weed this year at my new house. Swamp milkweed attracts the most aphids but all the plants seem to be growing just fine anyway. Haven’t noticed any signs of butterflies yet.
@WildFloridian2 жыл бұрын
I find butterfly weed gets the most aphid activity. But my swamp also gets a bit of it. I love that you are mixing and matching!

I'm really impressed with the messages you are sending. I've been raising monarch and swallowtail butterflies for many years now. People don't realize how in danger the monarch butterflies are. (I don't know stats about the swallowtail). I really wish more people would grow butterfly food for the caterpillars and flowers for adult butterflies. And quit using chemicals that kill them. I also like your videos because you don't say 'umm' all the time while you share your content. I don't like to watch videos of people who do that. Thanks for your efforts while spreading the information about the monarch butterfly, and attempts to save them.🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

Where can you buy smw seeds instead of plants?

I would check Florida Wildflower Association and FANN for native seeds.

I have sadly discovered that Bufo toads r devouring my caterpillars. What can I do to prevent this
@WildFloridian2 жыл бұрын
Oh no 🙈 I’m not familiar with Bufo toads but my general guidance is to let nature do it’s thing. The caterpillars come waves. And I find once the population dies down the predators move on

Put in non- native mw on Mother’s Day. Have my first set of caterpillars. But want to get native mw as well and am trying to find them in SE FL. Does anyone know if my red/orange mw is bad for our butterflies? JIC I don’t find natives.

I am in Florida as well. I have the orange red color milkweed . The Butterflies seem 5o love it.

My swamp milkweed is beautiful but no monarchs
@WildFloridian2 жыл бұрын
Oh no 😔 Give it time. They will find it. It only goes fast if others in the area are already have milkweed and monarchs.
