Wildlife photography in Scotland | Behind the scenes, hiking in the mountains, photographing stags

This is my third week in Scotland doing wildlife photography and this time my goal is to photograph the fascinating stags. The landscape in the Scottish Highlands is every wildlife photographer’s dream and when you then add a few stags I simply don’t know what else I could wish for.

In this episode I am using my main Nikon D5 camera and the Nikon 200-500mm telephoto lens.
The 4K behind the scene vlog is recorded on my Panasonic GH5 with the Leica 12mm.
For the drone footage I use my DJI drone.

I only had 3 days left, and I decided to go North to see if I could be so lucky and find some stags. I had absolutely no expectations when I left Edinburg, because I had no idea what was waiting for me up in the Highlands. This trip is my first time doing wildlife photography in Scotland but definitely not the last. It has been absolutely amazing and I am definitely going back very soon.

My son just watched a bit of this video with me and he said that you are a Danish me! He goes for short “adventures” with me and while I am getting excited about seeing a deer, owl or something else in nature and ensuring that he sees it, and appreciates it, reminds me while we are crwling through grass and snow, to use my camera and capture it. Your enjoyment of nature is infectious and I am enjoying your care, concern and insightful photography. I have recently acquired a Nikon D500 and pair it with a Sigma 18-300 mm and a Sigma 150-600 mm Sport and have used many of your tips to make a few great pictures.....thank-you! Keep them coming!

Your videos are always brilliant and a true pleasure to watch. Amazing images, absolutely stunning, you say you were lucky but you got yourself into the right area and put the effort in. Your passion and joy about all nature from hares to musks and everything in between is wonderful to behold. Watching and listening to you talk about the animals and how you observe them without being noticed is truly amazing. Then you share your images with us as if your sharing them with your friend. You also have a phenomenal talent for spotting the animal. My wife and I go up to Scotland every year and two years ago we were driving through a village when a herd of about two hundred red deer strolled through the village. I don’t think anyone visit Scotland just once, especially further north. A superb series of videos, I can’t thank you enough for the privilege of seeing them, and wow! What a way to end the video with those images, I’d give anything to just take one of them.

Just here at 1 am watching this video and I didn't move the whole 16 minutes. Stunning beauty and your passion and intensity relating to the natural environment you're enjoying is warming to watch. Whenever I go on a mountain trip here in the southern mountains of Spain, the same feeling conquers my nerves and tension, I could spend hours watching a wild animal going around, and I find their behaviour fascinating, how they move in the place they are, with so much grace and without any premeditation, knowing exactly what to do, without contradictions. Wild animals are the most honest even in the way they walk , maybe that's what captures our attention and fascination so much, about such a strange and at the same time familiar way of being. Great vid!

You inspired me to get out this week and try my hand at wildlife photography and shooting some video.
