What a wonderful relaxing video Gary, the perfect way to spend lunch on a stressful day at work. The photos are great, those nuthatches in particular are stunning looking birds. I must give this place a try, the birds didn't look too far from the hide so maybe my trusty old 70-200 would even be enough. If not it's even more incentive to finally grab a 100-400.
@GaryNormanPhoto8 ай бұрын
Thanks very much. Yep I think that you'll be fine there with the 70-200 🙂

What a lovely, relaxing feel-good film. The Mandarin duck looks great. As you say, I think some advanced technology is taking the fun & skill out of photography. Doing ok mate, thanks for asking. Always good to see doing well.

A man of many talents! Love that last shot of the marsh tit looking straight down the lens, all the photos were great though. i don’t think it matters that the birds come to you, you’ve still got to capture the moment. We have a posh bird table in the garden at our new place, and get so much enjoyment watching all the birds come and go. We actually get up to 20 starlings at once, they are so funny squabbling away at each other. We’ve even had 8 collared doves at the same time, and actually get wagtails in the garden too. Maybe i’ll get my camera out one day & catch a few shots. Nice plug for the pubcast too, not that you were bothered to do one this week of course 😁
@GaryNormanPhoto8 ай бұрын
Ah yes, starlings! We get loads of them in our garden during the spring. They go mad for the suet pellets I put out. I have video somewhere of about 40 of them squabbling over the food!

Nice having a virtual chat with you Gary, most enjoyable :) Also enjoying the Pubcasts. I haven't been to a hide in ages, so must look for somewhere local and get my ass in gear with my equally ancient 5DIV. I like the square format images at the end. Keep up the great work, mate

Great video Gary, making me want to spend a day out for wildlife, been awhile because Ilast visits to a hide nothing was around & felt like wasted time. But nothing better than being in the peace & quiet

I know what you mean, I have had days where it's been very quiet and it can feel like a wated journey, but even then it's still nice just to get out and be alone with your thoughts for a while 🙂

Beautiful footage and photos Gary. I think you’ve definitely found your niche, good for the soul and for the portfolio. Have you thought of using a sand bag to rest your lens on especially in hides. Supports the lens and easier to cart around than a tripod.

Don't mind you waffling on at all. I certainly don't have the patience for wildlife photography, unless its cows. Saw my first kingfisher of the year last week, virtually fell over it on the riverbank, you don't see the little buggers until they zoom off. Also saw my first red squirrel of the year the week before; we're right on the border between reds and greys so you don't know what you're going to get. I like the common or garden birds. I've been feeding a family of carrion crows (hoodies) for the last five or six years, watching them grow and have big dopey fledglings of their own; also drives my neighbour nuts as he hates them. He put a bird plastic falcon on his back wall to scare them off. The crows sit on its head and peck at its eyes 😁
@GaryNormanPhoto8 ай бұрын
I do love a crow 🙂 I'd love to see a red squirrel or two, I really must get to somewhere where they are common and get a few images 🙂

I think there's some in Wales. The closest place (to you & me) is probably Callendar, at the foot of the Trossachs, where they are in the majority. I haven't seen a red squirrel in my village woods (2 mins walk away) but its only a matter of a year or so and it will happen. Its illegal to re-release a grey squirrel back into the wild in Britain. You catch it, you eat it !@@GaryNormanPhoto
