We spent two nights in August with the host Upali at his home and experienced the stunning, authentic rural life. He took us for a walk around the neighborhood where we spotted deer and hundreds of fireflies. This man ADORES nature and takes special care of it. He knew a lot about local wildlife and spoke about it with genuine passion and affection. A cherished book about Sri Lankan birds that he owns and shares with guests gave us great insight into the birds that inhabit the area. Our closest neighbors for those two days were a fish eagle and a fish owl. His family is wonderful, and his wife prepared delicious meals with local fruit and vegetables. He suggested a spot in the nearby river where we swam with the locals, everyone being curious about us, yet friendly and warm. What an incredible and heartwarming experience it was to be in the presence of a man so connected and attuned to the beauty around him. ❤

We visited Ruins Villa for the first time in 2018 and became good friends with Andrew. We always come back to Sri Lanka because my wife is born in Sri Lanka. So in 2024 we visited Sri Lanka again and ofcourse visited Andrew and his family. Over two years we go back to Sri Lanka. Omg you saw the fish owl. We missed that one. Hopefully we will see him during our next visit. Iam glad you could pick up some good memories of you’re stay in Villa Ruins by watching the video!! 🙏🏽
