Landscape Oil Painting "A Serene Stillness" - Rocky Mountain Elk

This oil painting of bull elk with a dramatic mountain backdrop with beautiful clouds is my newest landscape. I imagine a time in October as the elk move to lower elevations. The sky is illuminated by the evening sunset and the mountains turn a brilliant blue and turquoise.

Interesting to see how you painted the background in between the antlers rather than painting the background first and then just painting the antlers over the top. was this to help retain some of the warmth from the undertone primer? Looks fantastic by the way
