Another excellent video. I believe it should be mandatory for all new builds to have bat and bird nesting locations in the building as part of the design. Too many bat and bird nesting locations isn't a problem. Too few is! Thank you for an excellent helpful and informative video.

I have had bat boxes up for around 30 years all I get are the occassional male late august/september the mating season. The local pipistrelles stop at my west fence and serotines stop at my east fence despite a pond, flowers, insects, and trees enough to make spring watch envious.

Have noticed a bat flying around our garden early evening recently. Tonight realised the bat is flying in and out of our wood shed so will check tomorrow to see if it has been roosting in there! Must tell our friend not to bother with the bat box, it's got a shed!

So many tiny wee pipistrelle bats where my house is in the Scottish highlands. I love watching them! I’m very lucky that my kids were brought up being able to see bats, eagles, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, stags and loads of wee newts and weasels and pine martens. I grew up with it and I’ve always been aware of how lucky I am to live here. It’s great that folk make an effort to help the bats in areas where they may not be so abundant. Same with the owls too, although the big bugger that sits outside my window are screams blue murder during mating season can bugger right off!

well I learnt something and that is to make separate roost box's for winter. I was under the impression that a summer roost was enough, my box's are 22mm recycled oak flooring untreated. made too the Kent two chamber design. my parents have a roost under a back door canopy and if the door is open they have received the odd bat in the house.

I find the leathery wings a bit scary but then I see the cute little furry bodies and think dam your so cute. If you do make your own bat box be careful not to use painted or treated wood as this is not good for the bats.

Can I site a bat box on a tree? If so, what about on a tree (this case sycamore) with a Tree Preservation Order?

No mention of the increase in telecommunication towers over the last 19 years confusing the bats sonar such a manifold increase will not be without consequences. Perhaps post some on screen info on that.
