This is the kind of bird farmers facing a mouse plague would love to have around! I'm in Australia, not sure if there's an Australian variant of this bird, but we sure could use a bird that knows how to keep mouse and rat populations in check! 😊👍🐁

The legendary Butcher Bird is an amazing one to observe. Songbirds with a raptor-like attitude and appetite. Most Shrikes look and sound a lot like the Northern Mockingbird.

I'm raising a pigeon on my own for the last 2 weeks, she's 4 weeks old now. Hats off to that little bird because I'm finding it hard to raise just 1 bird. Im feeding her baby cereal as I was terrified I'd feed her the wrong thing and there these little things are scoffing down raw dead mouse. I need to relax. Oh here she's on now looking for more food, then bath time 😊 🕊️💕 💕
@willgraham88782 жыл бұрын
Baby pigeons typically eat pigeon milk regurgitated by the mother. Its a very specialized food. I'm not sure about baby cereal! Each species of birds have their own unique diets. Shrikes are Carnivores so need that kind of food.
@revertedakhi4 жыл бұрын
What amazed me more on this video is that this little bird is able to raise 6 chicks while eagles despite their enormous size is struggling to raise 2 chicks at the same time. So I congratulate mommy bird for this good job!
@emerick8074 жыл бұрын
yup eagles chicks may need more foods to survive that's probably why. I don't think the eagle is any dumber than this bird so there's probably a reason why it struggling to feed his owns !?

Shrikes are passerines or perching birds like thrushes, swallows and starlings and many, many other species. They're an example of convergent evolution with birds of prey. They found a niche and evolved into it. They've a long way to go on the hooked beak and even further on the talons.
The Loggerhead Shrike nest very early in CA usually by mid Feb its already begun its nesting. I have found several nests but was unsuccessful originally because I was looking too late in the season. They are amazing birds. I watched one once take on an Alligator lizard about a foot long no small feet for such a little bird.

There are some species of birds like house sparrows that will let their chick's droppings fall to the floor and then there are others like the California Bluebird (smaller species compared to the Grey shrike) that will literally pick up the encased droppings , fly them to a nearby tree and smear them on its branches. I have seen this first hand as I have two pairs of bluebirds nesting on my property at the moment.
