I find it boring. People are just giving feedback. If that is how we feel then we can't help that. But they haven't really gotten going yet so it's understandable. When the journey begins things should pick up. The thing with the van though is that you could go anywhere and the ride was interesting and the new areas were facinating, especially when it's places you'd normally not see. With a sailing it's all water. Except when they get out on some place they are visiting, but then it's just a normal travel vlog at that point. In which we've all seen all these places a million times. And there are already a million boat vlogs, with people that are super experienced and professional. And that are rich so they can go anywhere around the word and have amazing boats. This stuff here just can't compete. I'm also worried these people are going to end up dead. Sailing a boat is not the same as riding around in a van. Much more dangerous.

Stiff Wood while I agree with a lot of what you say, not everyone can fix a boat. I haven’t watched these guys in the van, they only got my radar when moving to a boat. I think it is a bit slow for people wanting a sailing fix. It’s been I don’t know how many months it’s been and they haven’t even hoisted the main. Am I the only one that thought they might name their boat square space :)

TCK as you say there are many excellent sailing tubes. For example compare this to sailing millennial falcon. Both went and looked at then bought a boat. Had a few teething troubles. The other guys made it to the Caribbean. This crew seem happy enough to have found a houseboat. I think they are going to struggle when they put to sea, but I hope the prevail and it should be entertaining. They might die, but same could be said for the van.

at 0:54 there is a shot that looks like flexible dryer vent hose has been used on the bilge pump. If that is what it is, replace it, that stuff rots over time and you need to count on your emergency gear. Test all your bilge pumps regularly.
@robertgarbe63484 жыл бұрын
Ummm look again, that is 1 1/2 inch official bilge hose. If you don’t know that I wonder.
@svbarryduckworth6284 жыл бұрын
LOL That is standard coil reinforced bilge pump hose found at any boat supply store. Do a search at WestMarine's website for bilge hose if you don't believe. We used smooth heavy white septic hose which is a little tougher stuff and easier to keep clean on the outside. Our sink drains and scupper hoses that terminate on seacocks below the waterline have exhaust hose which is tougher even yet and impervious to boiling water even. So when I pour out a lot full of boiling noodle water or bean water when they are done cooking I don't have to worry about the sink drain hose softening and maybe pulling off the hose clamps or tearing at that temperature.

If you want to keep a boat in tip top shape for not only functionality but more importantly for safety, you have to constantly be working on it. When was the last time you checked your lug nuts on the wheels of your car? Never right? Me either. Something as important as that on a boat is checked all the time. Multiply that by several systems, add in corrosive salt water, pounding wind and rain, relentless waves and boats become nothing but a constant in repairs and maintenance. They seem to like to make lists, so I'm sure they will have a schedule.
@listay14 жыл бұрын

@@svbarryduckworth628 oh nice!! The mast and boom are an issue when attempting a reef point. With the rolling boom. Going to change that. And the short mast is good for the heavy weather, but the boat likes 15 knots of wind....perfect. big motor power(MD 21a volvo) allows me to go eight and a half knots, in the heavy currents. I like it. What year is your boat? Our production number is #332. Thanks s/v duckworth🖒
@svbarryduckworth6284 жыл бұрын
We have installed a slab reefing system with cheek blocks out on the boom with lines running forward to near the gooseneck for the new clews. We use a Cunningham line for the new tacks. It works very well. But we have kept the steel halyards and steel wire winches. They are very nice. The boom roller-reefing system just never was a great idea. Always looking for a spare wire halyard winch though not you still have yours save them. Very rare today and hard to find parts for. We bought a new loose-footed mains'l from Quantum Sails and that has made a huge difference in light air sailing as well as heavy air since it can be bladed-out to reduce camber with a 4:1 outhaul, or balloned out for light air and downwind. Ours is hull #527 made in 1976. BD Is a good old boat.

If y’all are worried about bad luck, you can do a renaming ceremony! From what I was taught, the reason people don’t rename boats is because each boat is recorded in Poseidon’s ledger in the sea but there are things you can do to like ‘send the name down’ basically. Also Penelope is beautiful!!!
@svbarryduckworth6284 жыл бұрын
Proper un-naming and re-naming ceremonies can be done right at a later date as well. So all is not lost. King Neptune can be extremely fierce but he is also subtle and wise. He is often somewhat merciful to new sailors and may just give them a string of small reminders that get progressively more expensive and severe if they are ignored.

if you don’t already have it, in honour of your new name, I’d like to suggest Tajin, the spice blend. I just recently saw it put on cherries with a touch of olive oil. Sounds weird, but then, looked so good. I remembered being in Mexico in the 80’s and being so inspired by chili lime and salt on all the fruit. Esp. on pineapple. So inspired that for awhile I and my husband had a passion to open a whole fruit popsicle store, in Toronto! Looking back, I think it would have been a huge hit.
