In this episode, we begin sourcing materials for the investment property house build and start pricing up finishes. Back at our homesite, we install the chandelier and prep the foundation for stone. Things are moving fast both at home and at the Trout Pond property. It's excitement all around as we move closer to finishing phase one of our A-Frame build (our personal home) and being construction on the Treehouse AirBnB (investment property).
We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"

I know it's been said a bazillion times in the comments, but I am so impressed with how well you two work together as a team. The fact that you both have different skills and abilities, but are able to continually communicate so well and work as equals is so refreshing to see and hear. This channel is more than a charming family building an off-grid home in the wilderness. It's a workshop on marriage and parenting and so many other things. Love it! My selfish hope is that you guys stay "on air" for year to come.

Have been following your build for years now and love how everything is turning out! I am a military wife and have learned some hard lessons through my years serving in the military- yes, wives serve too! I’m also a veteran. I’ve been hesitant to say anything for awhile now, but figured I could just share one of my hard learned lessons and you all do with it what you want. After all, I’m not an expert. My husband was deployed to Iraq and we were living on base. One day I received an anonymous nasty gram taped to my door, (which I thought was very cowardly), scolding me for not knowing the American flag was supposed to be on the right hand side when exiting the house. He ended his hand scrawled note with his rank of sergeant major. The note stated that he could not believe that after being in the military for so many years, I did not know how to properly display the American flag. I was furious of course, mostly because he didn’t come to me and tell me this himself. If he had, I would have had the chance to explain to him that although I did not know that particular flag protocol, the flag holder on the right hand side was broken and I was waiting for maintenance (it takes them awhile) to come to repair it, which is why I switched it to the left-hand side. If he had taken the time to talk to me, he would have understood that and maybe even helped a single mom (in a way) of 3 young children ( my husband was deployed for 1 year) to repair the flag holder and display my American flag properly. Anyway, I mean no offense, just thought I’d share a hard learned lesson from a military wife of now 33 years. Keep up the amazing work! I have learned so much from you two and I love how polite and well behaved your kids are. It’s refreshing. Blessings!

I have to say first I enjoy every video that comes out. Watching you working with your kids on your new adventure just brings out the best of everybody. I am still waiting for the brick to go on the A-frame house I’m sure it’s gonna look great. Now let me tell you one thing the A-frame house has a decoration on it that makes me feel very happy knowing you people. That is of course the American flag as being a ex-military person and a Vietnam survivor I thank you.

Log post will look great. I can tell you from experience, dont set the logs directly on the footers. they will suck up moisture like a straw. Have a metal plate with bolts down into the concrete that elevates the log up off the concrete. then you put a metal band around the bottom to hide the bolts.

I love your video’s and look forward to seeing it each week! Is your youngest son okay? Haven’t seen him in the last video or so. I like how your oldest son pitches in. Your daughter is growing like a weed and is just the cutest little thing! Take care!

Hopefully, you'll be one step ahead of me on this suggestion: Since you'll have to visit the property after each guest stay, you'll want some kind of 'shed space' to store all the frequently used items for the property maintenance. You don't want to have to 'guess' what you'll need before you go over there.

Warm & comforting & love with a splash of excitement of the unknown future all within a beautiful family, learning and working together! I cant tell you how refreshing it is, especially against the juxtaposition of todays fake (reality) dramas and who has got the bigger & brighter glitz!!!! THanks for leting me a part of your journey..xoxox Michael V, S. Florida

I love what you are teaching your kids it's absolutely amazing. I mean this day and time kids are glued to screens of any type anymore. Y'all having your kids out there learning and experiencing life outside of a screen is absolutely beneficial to them in so many ways. I did notice you seem to be missing a child in this video?

Great video. All this running up and down the hill takes my breath away. Your family has amazing stamina. The kids have really grown up. Ellie is gonna be a real heart breaker when she’s older, just like her mom. Thanks for sharing your family with us that don’t have one. I look forward to every episode.

I can't imagine how difficult must be to NOT build yourselves the new house, you know, cuz you used to do it yourselves, but it's amazing how well you run things everywhere. I'm still learning so much from you both. BTW I really really want a "Is that make sense?" T-Shirt!!!!!!

Thanks Josh and Erin for a great video, showing your willingness to work hard to achieve your goals. 🏆You have again shown the world what you can do when everybody works as a team. Maybe we should call you the A-team. 🤣The finishing off and new lamp looks stunning. Looking at the way you guys are performing with the new tree house, I would not be surprised if the whole house is completed by the end of March. Have you planned for the next house after this one? Thanks for sharing your life with us. Love you guys. ❤
