I don't have any native Centaurea where I live (that I know of?) but I am trying to plant native thistles this fall. In the US no one cares to distinguish native thistles from invasive ones and they just wholesale destroy them all, and they're not popular as garden plants because of their "weedy" appearance but they are SO important as a late summer nectar source and seed source for birds! Hopefully I can keep them alive, took me forever to find a nursery that even sold them.

Another great plant is verbena boriensis. Last much longer than buddleia as well.

I garden on clay and have left part of my lawn wild. I have fox and cubs but mostly it's creeping buttercup and docks. I shall certainly try to get knapweed growing though. Have seen it in the wild nearby..lovely to see all the butterflies.

Thanks, Joel. I love Knapweed! We have many dozens of them in our small 700m2 council meadow, where I work, here in Kotka, Finland. I spread them to as many places as I can justify (and many I can’t 😅).

Hey Joel! Lovely plant to have in a wildlife friendly garden, always full of bees and butterfly's. You don't have to have a huge garden or lots of space to help the wild things, you really do prove this over and over again. A tiny space with a few wild flowers makes all the difference. Best wishes.

Need to get some knapweed into my garden! Hope you've had a lovely holiday. I have noticed there seems to have been more butterflies around this year - in my garden anyway...

I would be so happy to have that many butterflies in my garden at one time, although in reality I think at best my garden is a stop off point for insects to refuel in. Keep the butterfly videos coming though Joel, love them. Regards Keith

After a slow start we've had a fairly good summer with butterflies like Peacock, the Tortoiseshell butterflies, Gatekeepers, Red Admirals amongst others. I was hoping for a repeat visit from the Holly Blue that we had last year, but nothing so far. We even had had a visit from an illegal alien - a Box Tree moth. I've never seen one before and didn't know of it's existence until yesterday.

My lesser knapweed flowered in my wildflower meadow for the first time this year after it was planted last year. Lots of bees but didn’t see any butterflies. 😕

There are many Elliot, it depends what you want to attract but this plant certainly provides for a lot of insects and birds later in the year - available on www.wildyourgarden.com along with many others :) Best wishes, Joel

@@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton Do you have any plants generally which you recommend every garden should have?
@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton
@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton 9 ай бұрын
@@ElliotPorter65 Hey Elliot, there are vast numbers, but of course depend on the size of the garden, the shade/sun situation etc - if you wanted to send a couple of photos in of your current garden, then I'll happily recommend some that are suitable - best wishes, Joel - enquiries@wildyourgarden.com
