You said Patrick did what no one has done, not true! I can’t remember the year but about 2009 or so the Falcons were losing to the Bears and got the ball with 11 seconds left with no timeouts and they got it at the 20 because it was before the ball went to the 25 yard line and Ryan threw a ball to Jenkins right at the sideline and he toe tapped it and they won the game on a field goal so it’s happened before maybe not in playoffs but it’s been done!!!
@jimrichardson7062 жыл бұрын
All the talk of parity and phases, what's your suggested solution? Pretty easy to point out a problem then sit back and do nothing. The NFL playoffs is better than other sports due to one and done! The Bills lost in overtime because they let the game go to overtime then couldn't defend. Nuff Said!
@ssshonnn2 жыл бұрын
What other sport has an overtime that only one teams offense gets the ball?
@supernova5end2 жыл бұрын
They should do overtime like baseball and basketball. Let it be another quarter and after that the second overtime it is another quarter. The 3rd overtime would be a sudden death, where they would be given the ball on the 20 and 4 plays to score no field goals. This goes on until one team scores and the other doesn't.
@jimrichardson7062 жыл бұрын
@@ssshonnn Years ago I learned in officiating clinics that the point of "fairness" is that no team gets an advantage not intended by the rules; not every team gets equal turns with the ball. That like every team gets a trophy for participation - STOP this madness! A team includes players, coaches and support staff. A team with the most talented players doesn't always win (think Super Bowl Vikings of old) especially if knowledge and skills of everyone aren't included. In NFL playoffs, if you lose a game you're gone. Stop trying to blame the overtime rule, which has been changed times before, like there's some perfection in ending a tied football game. Besides, it's more exciting like this instead of no overtime

After thinking about it I think the team that kicked off the last time they started the half is the one that waste to be kicked to in this next quarter that they play, p that means that they had to keep the other team from scoring but if they score they win the game and if they don't the other team has to score the next time they get the ball next now that's equal that's how they should now that's how they should do it a whole quarter of play and the next team that scores is a winner that's how they do it now that's the equal play I'm sorry man no flip in a coin it's going to solve anything

Funny how Mahomes has been carrying a suspect defense to 2 SBs, and 4 AFC championships in a row, an overall record of 50-13 (W/ L record), but Josh Allen is the better QB because a coin flip was the reason he and his #1 defense lost the game. Never mind the #1 defense allowed 42 points, never mind #1 defense can’t stop an offense for 13 seconds, never mind KC starting safety got knocked out 2nd play of the game, never mind BUF WRs pushed off on 2 of the 4 TDs, never mind the 2nd best kicker in the league left 4 points on the table, never mind KC tried to change this rule a few years back and BUF and other teams rejected. What has Josh Allen done in his NFL career to justify he is a better QB than Mahomes who has an MVP, 2 SB appearances, SB MVP, on track to break nearly all existing QB records and if it wasnt for Dee Ford being offsides he would have been to a SB every year as a starter. So many thoughts here. First, the best team didn’t win, Cel? I don’t care what Pff says, Mahomes got off three plays in 13 seconds for a game tying field goal. Cowboys couldn’t even spike the ball in 14. If Butker doesn’t miss a kick and an XP, it doesn’t even go to overtime. As for the OT, if people want to change it, fine-but change it to what? If Josh Allen gets the ball, and scores a TD, then what? Sudden death? You’re right back to the reason they changed it. Should they just play a whole quarter? The you’d have people saying, well, if only they had another quarter… Should they just play until both teams are dead? “we would have won if our O-like hadn’t literally died!” It’s sudden death via touch down. You’re not even being asked to stop them, you’re being told you have to hold them to a field goal to get a chance. Defense did that three times yesterday. Lastly, Chiefs wanted to change it in 2019, and Bills ownership was one of the teams that voted no…so there you go. As for Acho, “You stop them!” No-because I do t play football, but that’s literally what the defense gets paid to do. If they change it I won’t be mad, but nobody cares about the OT rules until their team loses in the playoffs… And mobility, Cel? Mahomes had more rushing yards. And gown 4th down conversions did Josh Allen need to score. How many did Mahomes need? Of the Bills score a td instead of one of their four punts, then they don’t have to worry about it. I reckon do it like this: 10min overtime where it's golden point and first team to score wins but if receiving team does it on their first drive then it goes to first team not to score a touch down off their drive. If both teams are tied at end of 10minutes than it goes to a kickoff moving 5 yards back each kick from the 40 until one team misses, finally if they both miss on same one it goes to which ever team scored the first touch down. Maximum overtime is probably still 15min so won't interfere with other games. Also Mahomes is easy the better QB, Josh Allen is great but some of the throws Mahomes makes (like the side sling around the defender to miss his raised arms) and the fact that he just gets it done when it seems impossible puts him as the better QB for me, outside of that I think Kelce and Hill as receivers helps balance out going against the Bills better defence because as great as Davis was Allen doesn't have any weapons on Kelce and Hill's level.

Mahomes ran for more yards with fewer attempts than Allen. Mahomes rushed for one TD also. Mahomes threw for more yards than Allen did too in this game. Allen - 329. Mahomes - 378. Allen rushed 11 times for 68 yards. Mahomes rushed 7 times for 69 yds and 1 TD. We lost the Honeybadger on the opening drive. Allen exploited that as he should have. Would he make the endzone passes if Tyrann Mathieu would not have been hurt? Who knows. But it was a definite factor in the Chiefs D. In the end, Allen had 9 TDS in his first two playoff game this year. So did Mahomes. Allen had 637 passing yds both playoff games this year combined. Mahomes had 782 passing yds in this year's two playoff games combined. I don't want to take anything away from Allen or the Bills. They played a great game. But so did Mahomes and the Chiefs. A huge amount of NFL records, already. And believe me the list is about half of what he has done. In 4 years as a starter! What are Allen's accomplishments? Winning his division. Making it to the AFC championship, where he lost to Mahomes. We don't count player of the week, or month, awards. Mahomes has countless amounts of those as well. Head to head victories it is 3-1 Mahomes. Come back with your argument when your subject wins something! Should the opposing team fail to do either, then it looses the game. Should the opposing team score higher points, then it wins the game. However, should the opposing team tie the game, then the previous team will regain another opportunity to score. Whoever fails to score or scores the least points on a drive (provided that the opposing team scored in their corresponding drive) loses. In other words: the team who’s able to score the most points on a single drive, while simultaneously preventing the opposition from being able to do so on their drive, should win the game.

Hard disagree with Acho. If you allow both offenses to touch the ball then you open yourself up to a disadvantage for the winner in the next week. An OT game can't end in a tie, so do you really want the winner of an OT game who had to play for potentially multiple additional quarters to have to go out in a week and play a team that is totally fresh? The OT rules are imperfect but they may be the best flawed option.
@zachstyles43782 жыл бұрын
Not a great argument. We should let the OT stay flawed just so the winner doesn’t get tired? The aftermath of a really tough game is part of the sport. The rules should be changed so that the winner has to earn it by stopping the opposing offense after scoring, not by getting lucky.
@brandondorsey72042 жыл бұрын
@@zachstyles4378 We just disagree. I don't think that a satisfactory solution involves adding unintended consequences that impact competitiveness in the playoffs. If the issue is the coin toss, then simply get rid of it. Treat OT like an extra quarter. If Team A scores last, and would be kicking off, then let Team B start OT with the ball. All other rules remain the same. If Team A kicks off during regulation and Team B has the ball on the 50 and it's 3rd and 10, then start OT with Team B on the 50 and it's 3rd and 10. I say all of that to say, there are solutions to the issue of having it decided by a coin flip, without changing the sudden death nature of the game. I am not in favor of any solution having the unintended consequence of impacting the next game, because we see it happen in other sports. Quantitative professional sports bettors account for teams who played additional minutes beyond regulation. I don't want to open pandora's box in which, you could end up with multiple OT periods in the NFL.

@@zachstyles4378 so what if both teams score? Would it not still come down to sudden death? Or would both teams keep getting the opportunity to stop the other? That sounds like regulation does it not? The rules are fine. Win in regulation, that way you don’t have to worry about overtime rules.

Bills played the same defense the entire game and the Chiefs shredded it and instead of making adjustments at the half, they stuck with it. They only changed it when the Chiefs needed a FG to tie at the end of regulation and they guarded the sideline (with the Chiefs having three timeouts) and played like 15 yards off from Tyreek and Kelce. Let’s go ahead and blame the OT rules for the Bills losing though.

The question is if the Bills get an opportunity after KC scores then what? Double overtime? You can't let a playoff go on and on and you can't have a tie so they are doing the only option. These things are well thought about by the NFL. As far as the best team winning argument. It doesn't matter. KC won within the rules of the game. Better luck next year Buffalo.

Once again the 2 former NFL defensive players failed to focus on the DEFENSE. The #1 defense in the league couldn't hold a team for 13 seconds and couldn't even hold them to a td in OT. You also didn't mention Honey Badger getting hurt on the 1st drive. Plus if Butker doesn't miss the extra point or the fg then Bills don't even survive to OT. Chiefs were clearly the better team. Chiefs had a harder schedule and a better record. Mahomes also lead Allen in EVERY statical category this season.

Most people are saying they should have squib kick to burn clock. Since they didn't, all they needed to do was immediately grab/hold receivers at the line of scrimmage which was the 25 yard line. Taking a 5 yard holding penalty would move the ball to 30 yard line and burn at least 5 or more seconds off the clock. The Chiefs would only have time for one more play and it would not be in range for a field goal try. I probably would have taken two 5 yard holding penalties at the line of scrimmage to be sure KC wouldn't have time to get into field goal range to tie the game. Wiping away 13 seconds should have been easy for coaches who get paid.

My opinion: you flip at the beginning of the game, decide who receives. At the half the other team team receives. So wouldn’t it make sense as you to go into the overtime to give the ball back to the one who receives at the beginning of the game. That would change the way teams always defers at the beginning, knowing that they will receive the ball on the next OT series.

The better team is the one that win's the game (unless some egregious reffing occurs). The argument that the Bills were the better team and lost in this scenario is terrible. You play the game within the existing rule set. The Bills had the #1 defense and needed to prevent a 75 yd touchdown drive in order to give their QB a chance. I actually would like to see OT go the way college football does it... EXCEPT, during the regular season, there is only one OT. In post-season play, overtimes beyond the first, each team MUST go for 2-points on a touchdown. This will likely create a few more ties in the regular season, which adds to playoff intrigue. It will still likely be fewer ties than prior to the NFL creating overtime.

@@BigRonRN18 in Canada (CFL) I guess it's more of the college route. Reg season teams start at the 35, try and get a FG or TD or gett stuffed lol. Mandatory 2 pt con after a TD. Simplest solution is, first team to possess may only kick the extra point. Second team to possess must go for two. If the first team misses their extra point, then the second team will be allowed to kick the extra point for the win. If they fail to score or match field goals, or just match 6, then it goes into sudden death.
