Wiley B2B DJ Target & MC Maxwell D (Ladies Hit Squad) | Rinse FM 100.3 | UK Garage 2000

At this moment in time Wiley was practically dabbling in everything from DJing UK Garage with DJ Target and MC Maxwell D as part of the Ladies Hit Squad, to MCing to Drum & Bass with DJ Geeneus and the Reckless Crew, to producing UK Garage tracks like Nicole's Groove under the alias, Phaze One, which later got signed to Relentless Records. Wiley was multifaceted when it came to music and there's no denying he was a hard grafter. Wiley was Rinse FM through and through, but he did many guest appearances on other London radio pirates. Check out the channel for on the history of Wiley, you'll find a lot of early rare recordings. This was the reason why we make note of Wiley's excellence because he has been persistent and consistent with his level of productivity since the early 90s. There's no one quite like him who has maintained that level and tenacity.
DJ Target was known for his mixing finesse as Jungle DJ in the 90s. He also part of a duo with DJ Trend (RIP), known as TNT, producing a string of celebrated Jungle Drum & Bass tracks, notably "2 Degrees" on Blackmarket's Kartoons Label, in 1997. The DNB scene was close knit and incredibly hard for DJs and MCs to breakthrough so Target decided to become a Garage DJ with the former members from Rinse FM 91.8, Maxwell D and Wiley. As part of the Ladies Hit Squad, ,Target began to produce tracks and cut them on dub plate. He continued down the production path setting up Dump Valve Recordings, in 2001, with the release of his first single "Earth Warrior" which was an instant success. This coincided with the expansion of the Pay As You Go Cartel (PAUG) in 2000, with the success of "Know We" and then the UK commercial success of "Champagne Dance". Target was now one of three DJs of the infamous PAUG, with DJ Geeneus also joining DJ Slimzee. Target continued to produce with Danny Weed and pioneered the Grime music sound. He is now signed to BBC Radio 1Xtra, where he hosts his own show called: "1Xtra's Takeover with DJ Target".
Which brings us on to the talented Maxwell D, also known as Maxwell Ranger. Maxwell started as a Jungle MC on Rinse FM 97.6 and continued to MC on Rinse FM when it broadcast on 91.8FM back in the mid 90s with his DJ, Nicky Slim Ting. His real claim to fame was when he won Kool FM's MC Competition at Kool Skool '96 @The Powerhouse Stratford. Out to those of you who remember the likes of Ninja B and Stormin MC (RIP) who also won the MC Competition. In 1997, Maxwell would later get a slot on Kool FM with DJ Nicky Slim Ting and it was there he began to get recognised. With his Jamaican patois flow, he also had influences from the late and great Stevie Hyper D (RIP). In 1998, Maxwell D was to get in trouble with the law and was sentenced to prison. On his return he could see that Jungle was no longer a viable option for him and so his hustler instincts guided him back to his spiritual home Rinse FM (now broadcasting on 100.3 FM).
Maxwell D had great individual success on the UK Garage scene with the releases of: "Serious" and "Bun Dem From Far". Interestingly if you'd like Maxwell's history it's recorded in the lyrics of "Bun Dem From Far". Maxwell D would join the Pay As You Go Cartel, which then consisted of DJ Slimzee, MC Major Ace, MC Plague, MC GodsGift and MC Wiley. They recorded their first tune "Know We" which was produced by Wiley. Gaining commercial success with the release of "Champagne Dance". Maxwell D would get booked for all the big name events like Club Sidewinder and travelled to perform in Ayia Napa Cyprus. After leaving PAUG he joined East Connection, with his old friend Nicky Slim Ting, on Deja Vu FM 92.3. Also recording many tracks and spearheading the new Grime Movement with likes of Wiley, GodsGift, Durrty Goodz, Riko Dan, Dizzee Rascal, Esco Bars (RIP), Crazy Titch, Lethal Bizzle, Skepta, Frisco, Bashy, D Double E and many others.
