Wiley was actually a DJ at the very start in S.S Crew. So he’s literally covered everything. Fun fact: he also encouraged skepta to start MC’in who infact was also a DJ at the start
@deadcatjordan3 жыл бұрын
You are right he was a DJ and before SS crew Wiley and Target along with others were also in an RnB group called ‘Cross Colours’. I ended up shortening the video and leaving this bit out. I actually have a video called ‘becoming Skepta: from DJ to MC’ where I breakdown the events that lead to Skepta picking up the mic, Wiley was heavily involved.
@Nainocard2 жыл бұрын
Actually it was President T, who got Skepta into MC'ing.

Well done. The video was concise without being too brief or rushed. It didn't bounce around or repeat the points you already made. It was well structured and it covered why Wiley is known as the Godfather of Grime. Like him or not, this is why he is important to Grime and why he is known as he is.

@gotsumana Жыл бұрын
I always knew that where’s my brother was a shoot at Doogz but I always thought the “where’s my brother” line was about Dizzee. Wiley has called Dizzee his “little brother” in many songs and mentioned it in his autobiography. I thought it represented how Dizzee left the grime scene around that time and went mainstream, and also because they hadn’t spoke in years.
@deadcatjordan11 ай бұрын
Hey, I think that is often the way people perceive the “where’s my brother” line. However, I would say “where’s my brother” is a reference to Crazy Titch, Doogz brother. As I’m sure you are probably a aware Titch got a life sentence for murdering producer Holmes over some bars Shaba Shak wrote for Doogz. So “where’s my brother” highlights that Titch is behind bars for life over his brothers beef.

Wiley was in a crew with Maxwell D and Target called Ladies Hit squad mainly on Rinse. Before that I remember when Wiley and Plague were on Rinse when it was a Jungle station around 1997 MC Stamina was on there way before the two big tunes he had. Personally I feel Grime was a natural progression and there were plenty of people who contributed. DJ Narrows, Master Stepz, Wookie, Zed Bias, So Solid, Heartless Crew and many others were all making darker garage beats before Wiley made Eskimo. Slimzey used to play drum and bass beats like "Freak show" by DJ Krust at half speed on their early PAYG sets
@deadcatjordan3 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. We often focus on Wiley and he did play a huge part in the development of the scene…but there were many other artists and producers who played their part. Grime was certainly a natural development, the UK finding it’s own authentic voice of ‘the street’ like hip hop/ rap is to the US. Jon E cash, Musical mob and Youngstar were all very important too. Youngstar was the first to move to the 8 bar switch which is synonymous with grime. Slimzee slowed down jungle beats too, he really evolved the sound with his sets and the producers followed. Thanks for watching and a top comment, great insight.

These new kids want to be a star with one tune or or radio verse ! Non of them want to put in the hard work first ! The scene don’t work like that ! All the legends of the scene were working hard for years on pirates and raves before they got full recognition!!!!
