Exponential developments in technology will drastically reduce the shelf-life of our current views of what cannot be replaced by AI.

I guess the obvious question is: what defines AI, as opposed to just a bunch of routines, and does it exist yet? What's intelligent about carrying out a huge number of simple operations?
@JacobMorgan5 жыл бұрын
Yep, great point, I've interviewed a lot of business leaders on this and there doesn't appear to be a consensus around defining what AI actually is!

@@JacobMorgan I think the question will really set in when human neurons are hooked up to circuits, like they are starting to now. Does that qualify? And does it feel pain? Does it suffer?
@eofdg5 жыл бұрын
Just to spread awareness, if you read Turing's paper where he posed the question "Can machines think?" You'll find that he said there that he said the following: "The original question, "Can machines think?" I believe to be too meaningless to deserve discussion. Nevertheless I believe that at the end of the century the use of words and general educated opinion will have altered so much that one will be able to speak of machines thinking without expecting to be contradicted." He thought that if a computer could be programmed to successfully play the imitation game, that would not prove that the machine was thinking in the same way a human thought. The definition of the word "think," though, would likely extend to what the computer is doing, in the same way that the definition of "fly" extended to include what airplanes do when they hurtle through the air, or "swim" to what submarines do to maneuver through water. Here is a citation of the paper, if you'd like to read it for yourself: A. M. Turing (1950) Computing Machinery and Intelligence. Mind 49: 433-460.

@@JacobMorgan True, but again, people without proper education are doomed to failure or re-education. Don't you think so?
@YesIlikebananasSo3 жыл бұрын
@@NoName-fe6ll I’m a bit confused, do you believe that proper education will cease with the development of AI?
@NoName-fe6ll3 жыл бұрын
@@YesIlikebananasSo Well, we can not be certain about anything. I'm not making any predictions, but people who don't have that advanced education, older generations are going to be useless. Same like horses during the industrial revolution.
