There is one constant in this world. That is change. So, sonic booms. First think of a ship moving through water and the wave coming off it's bow. Those are pressure waves. When a plane moves through air, it creates pressure waves of air. The closer the plane gets to the speed of sound, about 750 m.p.h. at sea level the more pressure waves it creates and they kind of pile up in front of the plane. When the plane passes the speed of sound, it goes through those pressure waves and they get released making a sonic boom. The crack of a super sonic bullet, the crack of a bull whip, or the crack of a towel when it's snapped are sonic booms in miniature. Oh yeah, anything flying faster than the speed of sound can make a sonic boom. Meteors blowing through the Earth's atmosphere do this all the time. They usually do it at such a high elevation and burn up so that nobody hears them.
