My son will win a tour de France. He's only 7 right now, but in 11 years, he will be a force to be matched. His name is Thomas Keim, keep your eyes peeled, kid is like tadaj, he just love riding his bike, winning just happens. ❤❤ Stay tuned 😁

Brent is right - we need more domestic races here in the USA. Having more major American sponsors supporting US teams would make a significant impact. Don't forget Neilson Powless or Sean Quinn who are big winners with little recongintion . The trend is shifting toward off-road cycling, and the USA is leading the way in that discipline. Let’s bring back the Tour of California! Happy Holidays Happy Holidays, and great show!

Off road but American riders get toasted in European cyclocross. The crossover stars are great - Van der Poel, Van Aert, etc.

I remember seeing Lance at the TOC. Unfortunately road cycling in the US has gone downhill since his downfall. I would like to see them bring that race back along with others. Would be nice to see Tadej back on my local climbs again.

It’s the same with F1. To compete you need to completely submerse yourself in the entire European culture to be able to compete.

1:24 Don’t try to wonder whether Floyd Landis and Lance Armstrong won the Tour, because THEY DID NOT. The 2006 Tour winner is none other than Óscar Pereiro. Greg Lemond is the only Tour de France US winner as of today.

The movement has to start with kids. Bike clubs, biking events, biking teams. As these grow, towns will start putting infrastructure in place. U.S. races will develop. Cycling is growing pretty fast in the U.S. and if lots of kids get involved, only then will the sport grow here. Gravel and mountain biking are growing. Now road racing needs only to catch up. Our next TdF winner has to be supported and nurtured here.

Since Bob and Brent went 18 minutes without mentioning Neilson Powless or Sean Quinn, let's get their names out there. They're two American riders on an American team and Neilson had some great wins this year and 9 days in polka dots last year. Sean is young but excited to see what the US National Champion can do.

I was surprised years ago how many US riders who made it to Europe took early retirement. Many were out of that Merckx development squad. Maybe times have changed a bit and rising to the top isn't quite as single-minded anymore. I figured for some of those guys they just didn't want that life. It would help though if we had some paramount stage races back here in the US. A future show brainstorming routes would be cool. Here near Asheville and the southeast I often remember the Tour DuPont and even though as a junior I was racing out west the impression it made on me was important. Carvers Gap and Beech Mountain etc.

Thank goodness we have one winner. Our guy won with just iron injections when everyone else was just starting to use EPO. We may have to content ourselves with having the one clean winner of the Tour de France ever.
@fanda6122Ай бұрын
cycling has NEVER been clean you need a serious history lesson
@duaneboxwell9137Ай бұрын
@@fanda6122 No one cyclist has ever been clean EXCEPT for Lemond. We know this because he says it all the time. So it appears it is you who needs the history lesson.

Greg Lemond 100 percent used cortisone, testosterone etc. before the EPO era. There's no way he was full natty on the French teams he was on.
@duaneboxwell9137Ай бұрын
@@PlayaBoss96 Well, if he did, that would make all his fans the same kind of idiots as all the Lance fanboys who insisted he was clean beating confirmed dopers. Only Lemond's fans would be bigger hypocrites because they should know better by now.

Likely an American wins Tour de France Femmes before the men's tour. USA is likely on the world cup schedule.

There was never a more fertile era for US cycling than the 80's when USPRO was the governing body for top level cycling in America. There were more races, more professional riders and more money to be made. The enthusiasm for road racing was off the charts relative to the present. I don't believe USA Cycling is doing an adequate job in the marketing and promotion of this sport.
@edreid6109Ай бұрын
Thet have to go to Europe and compete , the culture is so different and the racing so hard. Also the expense , lots of talent needed and lots of luck. It can produce a diamond.

To me, the determining variable is: Will cycling be a big enough sport in the US for at least some of the most driven and physically capable athletes to devote themselves to the sport.
@paulcorey316Ай бұрын
I live in CT and I have friends that I ride with and do not know how sepp kuss, Tadej Pogačar and Matteo Jorgenson is. They do know Mikaela Shiffrin and I think that is because it is on TV and cycling is not.

Good luck finding FIS World Cup ski racing on TV either. For that, and cycling, it's on viewer paid streaming platforms if at all.

No, not as long as super teams exist. It's time for a strict salary cap so talent is distributed throughout the peloton instead of consolidated under one sponsor.

@@stevenmeyer9674 Figures that are made up. If they were true, there would be far more money in the sport. No serious sport only has one big event. The more the sport concentrates just on one race, the weaker the overall sport becomes. The Tour has far too much of a stranglehold on the sport. It exists the other 49 weeks of the year.
