actually if you do a little googling, there are many legit mis-cut off-centre bills in circulation and as examples. Its difficult to discern legitimacy from this photo, I think its more likely its real as a counterfeit with all the proper paper, security strips etc, likely wouldn't have such a horrible miscut

Good job, that "fake" hundred is real. It's an older 100 dollar bill. These sell for over face value and the fact that it's misprinted means that it's worth even more over face value. Now that you have returned it to the bank, there is a good chance that the bank is going to send this bill to the federal reserve to be shredded. As a currency collector this pisses me off.

Chase really knows what they're doing. Used to be you had to put cash in an envelope and it wouldn't be available until some bean counter inside counted it. That caused problems for me once when I used a drive thru ATM instead of the one in the lobby, since the outdoor one wasn't emptied daily like the lobby one. Now, cash in, available instantly, our dispenses cash in 100's, 20's and 5's so you can really dig down into that account to have as much ammo as possible to attack those casinos!!

That's just what they looked like before 1996. Nothing fake about it. Same goes for the edges you thought were misprints. That was very common because of the way bills were cut back then. Slight differences in width aren't considered misprints. Only if the printed area goes over the edge of the note, is it considered a misprint. I actually had the opposite problem when I tried to deposit my roommate's half of the rent in my bank, when the new style $100s came out in 1996 with the larger portraits on the front. The bank tellers thought it was fake, because none of them had seen the new notes. The branch manager had to explain thet were real and show them some print out from the Treasury Department. My roommate had just gotten the notes from family in New York, who apparently got the new (in 96') $100 bills long before we did in Tennessee.
