Nah, no Chinese evs are being exported to the US currently and raising tariff at best will remain the status quo. Chinese EVs will continue to dominate the world while the US's domestic car prices will rise naturally due to no real competition. So in the end Americans will just end up paying more for less and become less competitive globally

As the largest oil importer, China is determined to develop electric vehicles. Even if the western countries stop promoting electric vehicles, China will continue. Besides environmental protection, China also wants to change its energy structure. In addition, many countries in the world are short of oil, and there is also a demand for electric vehicles. I just saw a news that the share of electric vehicles in new cars sold in Nepal has reached 60%.

The problem is that Chinese EV car selling at $10K has similar quality to US or EU EV cars selling at %35K. That is the real trouble. They are not selling CHEAP AND LOW QUALITFY PRODUCTS. They are selling products with high quality and price ratio. And they can do that FOREVER and still have a profit. They are NOT dumping the market. They simply can do it better and with much higher efficiency. That is why Yellen cannot use the word "market dumping" but "overcapacity".

The Chinese do not have to depend on the US or EU to sell automobiles. Latin American is over a half of billion people in population. Africa is 1.2 billion people. These low cost EVs will be in high demand in Latin America and Africa and will be more cost effective for their economies. I went to Panama City recently and all they drive there is Suzuki which is Japanese. I went into different malls and all they sold was xiaomi and huawei. Their store’s look like the Apple Store. So the Chinese do not need the US or EU. They can tariff all they want but that’ll hurt the US more. Musk will need to find another way to lower EV prices and start selling abroad.

Forget about Africa for now, maybe in a decade or so. EVs in Africa will probably be a very small % because there's no infrastructure for EV vehicles. They need to build the electric power plants first, and then things will change. Right now, there are a lot of power cuts, especially in the Southern region. From Zambia, all the way to South Africa. North of Zambia, pretty much not ready for EVs. In Sab Saharan Africa, only 1 in 5 people has access to electricity, so having an EV no matter how cheap it will be will just be a waste of money. So Africa will have to move fast to create new power plants.

I kind of interpret many post on here as acknowledging that we're reaching a market peak, in general, which is a well-supported thesis, and so if you've been sitting back chill while the gains roll in because bull market, well, time for traders to stay sharp, many are expecting volatility, probably a sharp downturn, smart traders should check their risk management is in shape, time to pay attention. The timing of his post vs what I know about the market supports that well enough. But yeah, the post could mean anything.....managed to grow a nest egg of around 100k to a decent 432k in the space of a few months... Here in Europe the best company - no matter where is from - wins. For now Chinese companies are now running everywhere. To put that stupid tariff like US is doing is to say literally "We can't compete with China - or any others -, so we'll change the rules - a.k.a. put tariffs on everything -, so we somehow count on the market.." It is like saying Everyone gets a medal only for participating. Talking about PBD keep saying "America is the greatest country in the world." It used to be a 100 years ago. But today is a pathetic country that can only survive by lying to everyone and - most sad of all -, lying to its own people.

If you ask most new car buyers if they would buy a car where they had to replace the engine in 10 years, they would say "NO" even if they planned on keeping the car a short term because of this impact on the resale value. So then why would any new car buyer want an EV or Hybrid where the battery pack needs to replaced or is severely underperforming in 10 years? Whether it's an ICE or an EV battery pack, 10 years life is insufficient. This is just one reason why conventional ICE with long lasting engines are the wise choice.

Well it’s a little more complex than that. The importer in USA pays the tax before consumer even sees the car. If car sits or isn’t sold the Chinese company has paid tarriffs and isn’t seeing reimbursement. In many cases importing company may not pass entire tarriffs to consumer and is part of cost of goods sold in USA. Yes consumer pays more put initial cost is all on Chinese car company trying to import the car. Chinese know this as China has far more tarrifs on US goods than US does on China. I was an importer for US company and we paid hundreds of millions in tarrifs every year to Chinese government. Its not about tariffs - the US just hasnt been big in manufacturing for years focusing on tech but also financial services. Tariffs of 10000% will not magically transform US manufacturing capability. Blaming China for intellectual property theft and copying is just an excuse - in the 60's older people remember everyone saying Japanese cars were rubbish and were cheap copies of western cars, I remember in the 80's everyone saying anything from Taiwan is just junk or a copy....while at the same time look what was happening in Detroit.....Blaming China for unfair trade is also a red herring - check the WTO - The US has the highest amount of complaints against it for unfair trade. The EU is pretty high too. China is very low on the list. All this blaming China is created by media and politicians who are unhappy at the rise of China, but at the end of the day are doing the people in the US and the West a great disservice. Rather they should be working hard to compete fairly by creating a society which, rather than looking over their shoulder at other countries working hard, should be looking to roll up their sleeves and work hard to forge a better future. At the same time the number of STEM students and engineers is dropping around the West - everyone wants to be a big shot lawyer or a 'manager' or work in a bank in finance - nobody wants to get their hands dirty or study hard and make stuff - because making stuff is hard, studying maths, physics, science and computer programming is hard and manufacturing and engineering takes creativity, drive, intelligence, resilience, sacrifice and effort and on top of that, requires entrepreneurship and risk-taking. The energy that built the US to be the world's strongest nation use to be like that but it seems people are more concerned now with social / philosophical issues, ignoring the fact that you need to eat first to be happy and that eating requires you, as a society, to work hard. Rather than worrying about abstract social issues, if people in the west really want to make a difference to society, they should perhaps look for a start at building infrastructure and housing - its a disgrace that the richest countries in the world can no longer house its people. I worry about future generations living in the west.

A Electric Car that races in 3 sec sounds like it's going to draw a lot of power from it's source. So how long can it last for the battery? We all have a cellphone that comes with an advice to reduce over drain the battery too often as it will shorten the battery's life. And how much does it cost to replace the battery alone?

Don't leave out tires and brakes, all that torque shreds tires and the cars are insanely heavy so stopping it burns your brakes up fast.

@@simshengvue5799 But don't look up how 80% of EV fires come from overcharging, right? And don't look up how there's been 213k cars in America that caught fire on an annual basis either, I'm guessing. And I suppose that you also don't want people to look up how EVs are in general much less likely to catch fire than gas cars.

Actually one of the Chinese EV CEOs have said that in about a decade they won't be creating new batteries and will able to reuse the existing ones.

other problem is that China itself is huge market for EU and US car brands and putting tariffs on their cars will have vice versa effect stoping imports of other brands to China market ps . some German car brands have better revenue in China than rest of the world so shockingly they are against EU tariffs so they can keep making money in China
