Three huskies and three cats react to an optical illusion in the hallway. My dogs and cats have to walk down a crooked corridor. Will they be able to pass the obstacle? To me it looks like none of them were fooled by the optical illusion, mostly they were concerned about stepping on a weird surface. Try this experiment again with the thing face down, so no weird pattern, just a strange new surface.

I don't think from a lower level it looks so difficult. If they react to anything, it's the fact the flooring is just different texture now. You could put white paper down and get the same reaction. I think being at our level, you see it as 3D better.

Yeah I was thinking the same. Pretty sure they were reacting to material on floor being different. Especially since he was acting funny on it, probably made them more cautious. Last kitty seemed to react to design a little more but overall nah

Yuki's face dropped as she was thinking live. She analyzed the situation and walked safely through the valleys because the mountains seem too high and steep and it takes too much energy to climb. She's not crazy. Monty realizes his ultimate dream of being an airplane pilot flying over the Andes. Olive was blinded by those wavy lines and unfortunately you will have to provide her with glasses which will destroy her beauty. Belka and Sonya know from life experience (and they perfectly recall each one of their 9 lives) that it's too dangerous to walk in the middle of the road. Bat is a mysterious black cat at ease with black lines wavy or straight in the middle of nowhere. He enjoys the pleasure of camouflage.

It's easy to assume this was all about the optical illusion. But there was also a brand new and unexpected thing in the hallway, and it didn't smell like part of the apartment yet, and she'd just watched her person stumble into the wall. I think that all of that added together might have been enough to make her a bit cautious. The optical illusion might not even have been a factor Needs a control experiment: same thing but with a checkerboard pattern, or flat stripes :)

4 legged creatures are very aware of uneveness on the surface they are walking on, and because the optical illusion surface is actually flat and even, the cats and dogs which all had a quick look at the hallway floor they were about to walk on, and then quickly discovered the floor was flat and did not require any unusual walking adjustment.

It's unfamiliarity. The problem with these optical illusion rugs is they only really work looking from high up, so at the level dogs and cats look at they probably don't even see the undulation illusion.

Hahahaha! Love how Yuki wasnt going to take any chances . Olive even more so! Monty just went : " Cool dude, fun game!" Olive wasnt going to charge ahead; " Great cautio is required here!". The look Yuki gave you - lol! " hey dad, whats up? Youre walking strangely. Im concerned..."// Belka avoided it all by hugging the wall. Bat on other hand was so not impressed. Sonya made me laugh: " Im a old mother, cant cha jus gib me treats?" This was so fun! I picture all their voices and voice tone. For some reason Bat slways has a french accent. Monty has southern California hippie chill. Yuki has distinquished english accent. Belka has texas accenr. Sonya has southern bell accent. Lol!

There is a channel I follow from Japan that features a male and female otter. He used the optical illusion rug that appears to be a spiraling down hole, at the bottom of some stairs and the male otter would have none of it. He had to pick him up and place him on the rug and even then, he was kind of freaking out. 😂 I love how Yuki was initially apprehensive and almost tiptoed over the mat. It's interesting to see how animals perceive things humans find confusing, like optical illusions. I suspect the cats weren't bothered because their pupils are shaped differently than other animals. Their vertical slit pupils allow them to see at distance clearer than closer for better tracking of small prey. Your furry family is so sweet ❤

I think you can't fool them twice. The first time they are testing out the strange paper on the floor. After that they knew. I think it was a tie. Great experiment though. They are all so cute and adorable.
