Good video! Couple notes. Our defense was actually really good when our back 4 were all healthy (something like 1.2 goals conceded per 90). Defense really just needs quality depth, especially on the left side and GK. Main issue is our midfield has 3 class players who struggle with consistency for various reasons (Bissouma, Maddison and Bentancur) along with a huge crop of young players who are promising but inexperienced (Sarr, Bergvall, Gray, Devine, Donley). Overall, our midfield wasn't good last season outside of the first 10 matches (in which it was sensational). Goal scoring is a big part of the 8 role under Ange and so we need players like Maddison, Bentancur, etc to step up and score some goals. Other issue is the attack. Our forwards struggle to breakdown a compact, low block (which is what we see 80% of the time) and also lose the ball frequently- setting us up to be counterattacked. In terms of improving the squad, defense just needs a quality LCB/LB. Midfield doesn't need much work, our 3 senior players need to find their form and the young players just need to progress naturally. Our starting midfield could be Sarr, Gray, Bergvall in 2 seasons and that is exciting. Forwards, we need a striker and a RW. RW we need someone to displace Johnson in that starting lineup, whether it's Neto, Bakayoko or someone else. Kulusevski can't work as an Angeball winger so he's moved to midfield/false 9 role. Finally, they need a striker to compete with Richarlison. Toney, Gyokeres, Openda, David, Solanke, all good options. Wouldn't mind Solanke, he was the best pressing striker in the PL and came 3rd in goals. If he simply repeats that level it would be a great purchase. Richarlison can also play on the wing, so he can backup every position across the frontline.

Spot on analysis! I think Solanke and Neto could absolutely thrive in this team. I expect Johnson to really become an integral player this season though - if he improves on his numbers from last season he'll be massive for us. Neto is the perfect profile (and contrast to Johnson) out wide though - let's leave it to the medical team to assess him and hope he passes all the checks.

Our defensive issues are mainly caused by 2 things... 1 our inability to hold possession for a period of time, we give the ball away so much and it leaves us caught out. 2 our tactics leave our backline exposed constantly because our 6 doesn't sit and our full backs play as 10's. Need to remedy this as our whole game plan is to out score opponents but our front line is poor in relation to the teams around us

Levy and the board are backing Ange … but like Ange has said multiple times’ it’s not done in one transfer window; they have given Ange a long contract and they are going about building thin new gen. Squad in a methodical way that has included moving on all of those from previous managerial regimes and creating a genuine pathway from the academy. I think it will be at least another 2 trans windows for the squad and the academy to be fully symbiotic and operate in a way we’re we are more reliant on the academy sprinkled with a few very strategic players as required and when opportunity arises. The point about leaky defense is wrong, when those 5 played we had one of the best defensive records in the league, it was injuries to Destiny, Micky and Cuti when the goals started to leak what we need is depth in those positions

£65m....for a Player that, before the Transfer market went nuts, is worth £20m tops and is VERY mediocre to say the least. Then there is Alvarez at £81m...right...I wonder how much Mansour put into that price, so City could get out of that soppy FFP...."again" How much is he REALLY worth...£35m? 40m?.....and again, all this since the Transfer Market went nuts. If you go and look at Solanke's Transfer Value, it stands at £35m, that is AFTER his Transfer to Spurs, which is more realistic than that soppy price Spurs paid. The word "desperation" springs to mind. I wonder how long it will be before FIFA, UEFA and the various FA's wake up and smell the coffee and "at last" put a cap on Players Wages and Transfers, before every League on the Planet prices itself out of the game completely.

Ange teams don't use technically gifted strikers though. At Celtic he had Kyogo Furuhashi who hardly got involved in build-up play and just occupied the box to get on the end of things. His passing and involvement around the box was negligible. Ange uses so many bodies in the middle third of the pitch, a deep lying striker isn't necessary. He needs someone with sharp movement in the box and an eye for goal. Alvarez would be a waste in this team.

Personally I do not think Ange system works against better teams. The movement of Alvarez would not be a waste, but you say that is what we need.. lol Solanke does not run into space. He also is a player that does better when he doesn't think about what he is doing.. similar to Richarlson, Werner and Johnson. Donkeys.

To add.. why spend 65m on a player you can get for 20m with similar one dimensional qualities. May as well get a Weghorst or a Chris Wood and then buy a DM that can actually distribute the play better than Bissouma who is another squares in round holes players because he is more of a number 8 not a 6

@@GrumpyBugger. Check Celtic's record in European football under any manager for the past 20 years! They've been consistently awful - nothing to do with the type of striker they had under Ange. And you say you'd rather buy Weghorst or Wood on the cheap. Why do that when Ange has publicly stated that forwards are his priority? Wood who turns 33 soon and Weghorst who's 32 and failed in England previously! I think Ange has got to be fairly happy with the midfield mix, though I agree an ungrade on Bissouma would be nice. Perhaps he sees Gray taking that role as the season wears on.
