Individual awards mean absolutely nothing, Aguero has been the only world class player in the Premier league for the past 6 years apart from Bale and Suarez. The fact that he's never been in it proves that it's all politics. The only reason why Gerrard is considered the icon he is, is because he played for Liverpool and because he's English, if he played for Stoke he would just be considered a Charlie Adams and he'd be a no one. Apart from the Champions League (where he dived in the final) he's won nothing of real value (no one cares about the FA cup anymore). Great penalty taker though...
