I think it would be interesting if the first fall is inevitable, and the game ends with the calamity happening and a similar cutscene with the egg. Except he goes forward in time to the end of BOTW, where the malice that followed him makes vah ruta stop working. Botw 2 starts with zelda and link dispelling the malice and discovering the egg
@kozukiangel52484 жыл бұрын
Skyward sword deals with time travel even through it's the first in the series and probably that bot is the only guardian with time travel to only get inevitably destroyed so that's why they know about the runes and tower because he when back in time, because to me it seems like the living shiekah already knew about it before BOTW because non of them seem surprised when the towers started showing up all over hyrule
@milopeterson43504 жыл бұрын
It could be that the robot goes back in time so that there is a reason to show that time and it could be that the tower was deactivated after gannon awakes
@alfredalfiesiv70824 жыл бұрын
My answer to why runes exist before the events of BOTW. As a weapon for Zelda, instead of getting another sheikah slate, you get a memory peace, it's description says that it's an attachment for the slate made for slaying monsters. Link gets access to the runes because of E G G B O I. And Impa... Impa is from Kakariko village. Also shadow clones. You are welcome.🙂
@NovaMaster3754 жыл бұрын
So maybe the Hateno tech lab in this game will be destroyed, and the torches get moved to those locations. That would explain why there's an official lab initially, and then the botw labs are built afterwards. Idk it's just my take.
@dragonpaladin55844 жыл бұрын
There are a few details to take note of: 1) Breath of the Wild mentions Guardians going rogue before the Calamity, it is possible that the malice following the egg guardian is what caused those Guardians to go rogue. 2) There are no Guardians in the pictures the egg guardian had, aside from one that was not glowing at the time. There is nothing to hint that the Guardians will destroy Hyrule. 3) Hyrule was unaware of the four pillars underneath Hyrule Castle, it could be the sheer amount of Guardians that took them by surprise. 4) The Champions where already in there Divine Beasts by the time they were corrupted, so they had time before the Beasts turned.

I'm 100% confident it's a closed loop. Yeah, there are some discrepancies with BOTW, but I think that comes down to story design as opposed to any indication of a retcon - for example, giving Link a pot lid to use against the berserk Guardian would be contrived in a scene with the additional context of Link being a soldier on a journey, instead of the event happening somewhere random with no context. With the full context of the scene as a game level and part of a story, it makes more sense for the item in question to be a shield, but the essence of the scene itself still happens almost exactly as otherwise described. And the timeframe of when Purah discovered the runes is potentially fucked, but Impa has dialogue indicating that apparently Purah was conceptually aware of the runes but unable to make them work before Egg showed up, so we can handwave it as Purah specifically figuring out how to use the runes without Egg post-Calamity. I don't think any of the retcons so far are inexplicable, or necessitate a timeline branch. Rather, I think the point of Egg time-travelling in a cold open is meant to throw us off-balance and put us in the same headspace as the characters in the story, where we all know SOMETHING is going to happen but not quite what or why. When the future refuses to change and the Calamity still happens, it'll have a heavier emotional weight than if it had been guaranteed. Also, if Egg attempts to stop the Calamity but in fact actually contributes to it, that would track thematically with Rhoam being responsible for Zelda's struggle to access her powers and Ganon using the weapons built to destroy him against Hyrule. Honestly, I think it's just that they didn't anticipate making a Calamity game when they wrote those events for BOTW, and now they're slightly tweaking a bunch of small stuff to make the game based on this story better. That seems way more likely to me than this game dramatically changing the future and lying about what it is in the marketing
@tuckersins99044 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly!
@stuffz17574 жыл бұрын
Link still could have deflected the beam with a pot lid. The transition screen that mentions him becoming Zeldas Bodygaurd in AoC doesn't mention how he became Zeldas bodygaurd only that he did so through his commitment and dedication, so the beam we see him deflect in the demo could simply be where he learned that he could deflect a Gaurdian laser, this would make sense since I think the diary entry in BOTW that mentions him deflecting a Gaurdian laser state that it happend in Hyrule Castle.
@V.U.4six4 жыл бұрын
Same It wasn’t in the plan (most likely) so they couldn’t have put “hints” in BotW to lead up to it I feel like it might fall short without x abilities types that we would be familiar with from BotW I’m taking this with a grain of salt lol
@saraross83964 жыл бұрын
Agreed, and it wouldn't be the first time that a game designed to be a prequel to a game released years before added things that were not seen in the older game (Fi and Hylia for example).
@smcb99794 жыл бұрын
@@saraross8396 Fi and Hylia are a great example, yeah. The conflict between Hylia and Demise, and the recontextualization of the "Triforce Trio" as avatars of divine figures connected to a curse cycle that shapes Hyrule's history is what made the less conventional lore and stories of BOTW and arguably ALBW possible, and I expect that to keep paying off in future new games. Some people have a right to dislike it, if they were fond of the old lore, but for the most part it's a reimagining that EXPANDS what the writers can do - and the same idea could easily apply here to AOC.
@spiderlee55854 жыл бұрын
Yeah, probably an unpopular opinion: The Zelda Timeline as a whole was never supposed to be coherent or logical. It was Nintendo realizing that a decent chunk of the LoZ fanbase was really into wide-reaching theories that tried to hypothesize how the games fit together, scouring for lore and evidence, and they just patched something together to cater to that chunk of the fanbase and have been scrambling to keep doing so ever since. For a long time, only a few of the games were ever intended to be anything like sequels, and each game was basically a stand-alone experience that just retold the same story over and over, just with new maps, new mechanics, and character redesigns. It was cost-effective to just churn out the formula with superficial changes, and let the fans do all of the complex elaboration. It's only recently with BoTW that Nintendo has had to do heavy lifting with regard to connecting lore and games together. Trying to connect all of the games together in a timeline (with all its wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey loops and hard right turns and splits) was a facetious effort from the start, so it really doesn't matter whether you like the timeline or not. If you want to operate as if the timeline is canon, go ahead (good luck), and if you want to treat each strung-together set of games with sequels as stand-alone branches of the IP, go ahead, and if you want to just shrug and not bother with the timeline's canonicity at all, good go do that. Focus on your faves, brainstorm for theories, keep making fanart and fanworks and critique of the games and their development, and keeping playing if you like. The timeline comes very far second.
@encryptedproductions60064 жыл бұрын
I honestly think that Nintendo might be caring more about Zelda's story, considering that they made a *trilogy* just for Breath of Wild. Or maybe the feel guilty about making Breath of the Wild not have a more prominent story. idk.

My theory for now is that this is a closed time loop but not with the guardian itself endlessly looping but only once. We saw an corrupted version of the tiny guardian as they entered the ancient tech lab. So I think that in the story we somehow get a hold of it, disable it and Zelda will store it in her room. Zeldas powers than heals it's corruption and it travels back in time like we saw in the beginning of the game.
@smcb99794 жыл бұрын
Alternatively, Egg gets corrupted WHILE time-traveling from the beginning of the game and its point of origin is something different. egg origin -> egg travels to the beginning of AOC and meets Link and Impa -> AOC's story progresses -> egg ends up in box -> egg tries to time travel again for a THIRD chance but gets corrupted, becomes the evil egg that sabatoges its past self and ensures the loop, either eternal or closed depending on evil egg's end
@ddnava964 жыл бұрын
Well, I think closed time loops actually need to be that way. Each _iteration_ of the mini guardian only travels once. We have the _current time_ mini guardian and the one from the future. If the _same_ mini guardian keeps traveling back in time that's not a closed time loop because it will have more information and the events won't be the same (Watch "Live, Die, Repeat"/"Edge of tomorrow". In that movie the character keeps repeating the same event over and over again, but as he gets more information he can make it further down the timeline)

I have a theory. What if in the AoC timeline they actually defeat Ganon, but, because he's defeated, the egg doesn't need to travel back. This re-creates the original botw timeline, where the egg never comes back to warn our heroes, and they lose. The calamity happens, and the egg awakes. This generates two timelines that depend on each other, creating a loop.

That does make sense, considering the egg is replacing link “kinda I guess” since the child/adult time line the hero wins, but then goes back into the past to live his childhood but suddenly vanished then the calamity happens again later on over time. that probably could be why in original botw they failed since the egg did not go back to warn the original timeline” as you said the egg completed its mission therefore didn’t need to return” making it the fallen time where the hero dies but gets reincarnated. As its why we got botw Edit: so Aoc & Botw could both be 2 separate timelines that could somehow able to connect to each other for botw 2 If you played FF7 Remake you know what I mean.

What if the doubles of each champion on the tapestry represents the soul of the ancient pilots as well as the champions? Remember the tapestry in BotW depicts the battle 10,000 years prior; not the age of calamity. The tapestry in this game seems to be depicting the battle 100 years prior to BotW. It's possible the champions meet the spirits of the previous pilots in their efforts of accessing them. It's heavily implied in BotW that the soul is what powers a divine beast and the reason why the blight ganons trapped them inside.

Also, side note, I fully champion the fact that knowing about the towers and having access to runes is in NO WAY impossible to have occurred within the continuity of the original botw lore. Personally, in my mind (although obviously this is well after its release lmao), I’m completely fine with this decision because this game is primarily based on the premise that gameplay > story. They created a situation in which they were able to maximize the gameplay scenario, and as a result we get great gameplay and I can’t complain about that :) And also, what I think is even more important than story for this game was just the idea of worldbuilding. You could group that as a subgroup of story, but I consider it distinct and I think this game does an incredible job of painting a picture of hyrule before/during the beginning of the Calamity that I think gets undervalued and dismissed because the story doesn’t match up with that.

The game can be canon and the time loop can be avoided with this theory: Quite simply, the evil Guardian and the benevolent Guardian are one and the same and they coexist due to the time travel, i.e. the benevolent Guardian is the evil Guardian of the future. The evil Guardian was originally found, deactivated and stored in Zelda's room, he then awoke benevolent along with Zelda's power and decided to go back in time to help her. Clearly, going back in time he started coexisting with his evil self of the past. We know from Skyward Sword that Sheikah's time travel works in a precise way: a change made in the past, affects the present instantly, WITHOUT creating a new timeline. Link planted the seed of the tree of life in the past and returned to the present. Link did NOT form a new timeline where the tree had always been there, he just magically changed the same single timeline he came from. What I'm trying to say is that our benevolent Guardian, by going back in time, could have messed up the events that will make him travel through time in the first place. What if the evil Guardian gets destroyed instead of being deactivated and placed in Zelda's room? How could the benevolent Guardian even exist in the past That's why the Guardian magically faded into the oblivion. That's why there is no trace of the Guardian in Breath of the Wild. It's the SAME timeline, but the Guardian messed up and disappeared in the present as magically as he appeared in the past.
@lpfan44914 жыл бұрын
The issue is that no one in botw mentions the guardian and link does not recall it either. In your example, groose still had a recollection of the state of things where the change did not happen yet.

Actually, the egg fits perfectly into this. Suppose the egg is some sort of ancient tech used by the Sheikah to record story events from the past by travelling through time. Suppose the egg also can travel to alternate timeline. This could explain why they know so much about other timelines. Maybe the ancient Sheikah gathered all those events from the data banks of the egg guardian and recorded them as part of their history. Or even better, just send 3 eggs at different points in OoT. One Egg stays the 7 years and witnesses the final battle, WW, PH and ST. Another Egg goes back with OoT Link and witnesses MM, TP and FSA. And finally, another egg stays the 7 years and witnesses Link being defeated and thus ALTTP, LA, OoX, ALBW, TFH, LoZ and AoL.

One thing I am disagree with you is that I think it will be bootstrap paradox. Bootstrap paradox is present in Steins gate and Dark in which events are changed but results are always same. i think AOC might be another timeline in the sense that certain small things are changed (runes, towers, corrupted guardians, etc) but the outcome it still inevitable. i mean nintendo seems to like the idea of inevitability, since (imo) the tl theory that makes the most sense for botw is the inevitability theory, which basically says that no matter what happens in any timeline split, the events of botw will occur one way or another (ie: rito and zora coexisting, etc). so age of calamity could go along with this. no matter what little egg guardian does, botw must happen. the calamity must "win", the champions must die, the kingdom of hyrule must fall, etc.

In AoC when we see two of each, I feel like it's as though the people of Hyrule have updated the ancient tapestry, including the current champions (Revali, Daruk, Urbosa and Mipha.) That explains why there's two champions on each divine beast, and the egg guardian has also been included.

While i am one who isnt too fond of the addition of time travel into the story of this game, i feel the potential split isn't as much of an issue as it may seem. As you mentioned earlier on in this video, BOTW (and the subsequent sequel) likely could take place in the timeline the eggboy left, thus making the events of this game that might contradict botw's timeline ultimately wont, because it's a new timeline entirely, though i suppose that's obvious. however, i also feel like claiming this as a timeline split makes it seem too official, even though this game is related to breath of the wild's story, it is important to remember that it still is a side game, a spinoff. no one batted an eye or put any thought into the time-travely nonsense in the original hyrule warriors game (except good ol matpat) and i feel it would be foolish to overthink this case as well, because it's not likely that there will be subsequent games in either end of this "split", and i ultimately still believe that the aspects of the game's story and gameplay that cause plotholes or contradictions can just be written off as dubious canonicity. Ultimately, while the story of this game may be more complicated than it was advertised to be, I'm still gonna appreciate the fact that we're getting to see more of pre-calamity hyrule, as well as the characters we never got to appreciate in the og game, even if it's not the exact retelling of the calamity we were expecting it to be.

Hi good video, may I reassure you the "Hateno laboratory" is a translation error from the English version I think, in the French version the text refered as the "Royal Ancient laboratory" which is where they go in the story and the place we see in the cutscene.

Here's some things to help cement your idea of time traveling not affecting the future that I didn't see mentioned in your video. 1) There is a journal, in Botw, thats states link took down a gardian that went crazy. This could be mentioning the second mission. 2) The egg gardian came though the time gate with malice, and we can assume the malice will try to counteract the egg. 3) At the end of the second mission of AoC, we see what appears to be another egg gardian that is corrupted by malice. We can assume that this egg will try to counteract the other. 4) The egg didn't awaken until Link was mortally wounded and when Hyrule was destroyed. So, odds are it only knows that Hyrule fell. If thats all it knows, it will be harder to prevent the events of the calamity. Hope these points help you in developing a theory for it.
