There's an odd sort of "dual amp" sounding thing going on with the distortion. It sounds like there's a 90's style scooped chuggy thing going on, but with a medium gain low mid heavy channel blended in. It's not what's going on, but there's a sort of pokey low mids thing happening. That might just be the mic placement etc.

Yeah I hear it too. It’s almost like a mesa dual rec gained out and scooped and then a crunch tone with the lows and highs down and the mids up. Very interesting. I sorta like it.

It might have a "tube" on it. But I bet it's not high voltage. They deprive the tube of voltage so it distorts easier from over saturation. Not the type of circuit you want in an amp

@ haven’t even looked up how much the Jeval costs but I’m sure it’s close to $2k. The Kraken is $1k and all over reverb for $600-700/used. I have the v4 preamp pedal a few yrs ago and one of the best tones and amp like sounding preamps I’ve ever used besides KSR Ceres and Vesta.

I've always wondered if the tube in these single-tube "hybrid" amps even do anything, or if they are just for show. Why not just use a FET just like the other five gain stages in this JEVAL amp? I can't imagine it would make any difference having just one preamp tube as the first gain stage. If you want a clear tonal difference by adding one or two tubes to an amp it would be in the rectifier or the power amp sections. Amps with a solid-state preamp and all-tube power amp sound more like tube amps. Amps with all-tube preamps and solid-state power amps mostly sound like solid-state amps. Nowadays there are full solid-state amps that sound indistinguishable from all-tube amps, so there's almost no reason to continue with this "tube just for show" thing. That's just my opinion tho.

It's 150W real RMS, not "musical" or Peak.. so it's around 80 at 8ohms and 40W at 16ohm. You're right, keep always an eye on BS, just check the total W absorbed on products. I've seen products rated at 170W absorbing 55W from the wall... Kinda magic😅
