When you come to the time to ring the bell do not force it in any way. When you are starting the bell do not overdo the pulling on the rope. The same is for when you want to stop ringing. Do not hold the rope tight so the bell stops right away. This will increase the chance of the bell breaking. When the bell do ring it doesn't need a lot of force to keep going. Be sure to give it just a tiny tug in the rythm of the bell. Just some tips from someone who has worked with manually rung the bells in a church.

I would recommend a plywood cut out mock up of the bell assembly to make sure it all fits. Much easier than hauling the bell and all that up and then finding out it doesn't fit right.

Billy in the bell tower! At least there are no bats. Billy I think I would either put a lock nut on that bolt or at least drill the one there for a split pin. I would measure and cut some boards to put across the beams to stand on for your work. They could be stacked off to the side when not needed. Dad had some bad stories about snipers in bell towers from WW2. He did chuckle and say he rung their bell. Sad days though. I'm a machinist/welder/mechanic and design and install machinery. Your drawings look fantastic. You wouldn't believe the "drawings" I have gotten over the years. I'm 64 so....... I'm looking forward to hearing that bell ring! Be safe in that tower. Cheers Terry

When I first moved to my small artist beach community in South East Florida 20 years ago, everyday a church bell rang 12 chimes on the exact hour at 12:00 noon. After a big hurricane that came through, it never rang again...I do miss that lovely chime at noon...

The first thing you need to do is build a stairway up to the bell. You’re going to have to be up and down to check on it and maintain it anyway. I suggest making a dovetail to join the upper to the lower part of the bell mount together.

Now the fun begins getting the bell up to the previous position , arranging the pulley system and where you pull the bell from ,also most important rest points for the bell if you rest the bell in the up position and so it can't do a 360 degree or more swing out of control with such a light bell ,also you will have to get permission from the mayor's office to use the bell as big enough to worry the town for it's use as sound will travel a long way.
