Mortske Repair

Жыл бұрын

This 1951 Ford F4 came from the same estate as the infamous Snootch Rocket, check out that video if you haven't! As near as we can tell it was last used regularly in the early 1970s but it appears as the previous owner may have had it running 20 years ago. Let's see if we can't get this old Ford Flathead running once again! If you're interested in this truck as is you can own it for the low, low price of only $2,000 in the condition as shown in this video. As always, thanks for watching!

I watch a lot of these - these... old car thingy videos... and I want you to know I really appreciate what you do bud, far more than just a lot of really good advice and life lessons wrapped inside rusty brake lines, but also the wry humor and deep shallowness or shallow depth of the human experience. Funny, irreverent, true to yourself - you're actually a great spirit boost for all of us riding out the crazy wicked backward phony timeline we have all been stuck in for years now..... How did you survive the darkest of times? I watched Duff and Mortske fix stuff and make me laugh - a lot. Cheers from Hamilton, ON

I'd like to further this statement. In December of 2020 I entered a recovery program. I had an alcohol and drug problem. I'd been served divorce papers and had lost my second job in six months. As I labored to regain my sobriety, I knew I could count on this channel to post a video every Monday morning. It gave me something to look forward to. Believe me when I tell you, it was a hard recovery and sometimes it still is. But as I continue on in my sobriety, I know I still got ol Mortske Repair to look forward to every Monday at about 8am. Thank you Mortske and Duff.

The only issue the 12 volt battery will give you is the radio. It won't like the 12 volts. Light bulbs can be changed. Swapping the 6 volt generator and regulator is not hard to do. The starter will get a bit hotter if it cranks a bit too long, but with the 12volts spinning the engine over faster will start the engine quicker. Swapping the coil for 12 volt coil or adding a ballast resistor in the power feed to the coil. I'm sure Mortske knows all these things and a few I missed. Just wanted to say this so others might learn.

Hi Mort. About 7 yrs ago I tried to build a rat rod. Started with 2 rusty, gutted, nasty '50 F-1 rollers. Took parts of both roofs to make one cab with a SIX INCH CHOP! And my 5'11 frame and big belly still fit comfortably on the factory seat, behind the factory wheel! Coolest lawn decoration you ever saw! 😂

That thing is super super nice for its age, looks dang near 100% original interior. Looks like it even had a radio! Put in a few days of wrenching on the clutch (maybe not so bad of a job) and the brakes (definitely a bad job), carb kit, points & condenser. The way it runs already you can probably just get a modern 8 volt battery and it will be fine. Throw a bunch of horse blankets on those crunchy seats, pressure wash it, and brillo the glass. I know you're selling this one but man, Red Ed is a damn nice rig, especially since it doesnt have 50 years of farm engineering on it, except maybe that starter "adjustment."

You certainly couldn't let today's cars sit that long and expect them to start as easily as this one did. They truly built things to last back in the day!! Good to see another one saved. Glad you didn't have to adjust any valves on this either. But you did get to pull the starter. Duff is liking the old-style bench seat in this model. Thanks as always for keeping us entertained. Waiting till next week.
@TestECull
@TestECull Жыл бұрын
I doubt you could get one to start AT ALL, nevermind this easily. I speak from first-hand experience when I say just a year long hibernation is enough to totally destroy a modern engine with its razor blade thin low-tension piston rings. That happened to the 4.6 V8 in my '99 Crown Vic P71. I parked it to save up for new injectors in running order, but when I got the new injectors in it and took it for a test drive it burned 2-3 quarts of oil in just a quarter of a mile while running on seven and ejecting the dipstick from the tube. Meanwhile, Mortske has resurrected a flathead V8 that was so badly stuck he had to beat the everloving fuck out of the piston DIRECTLY while scorching it to hell and back to get it freed off; when that engine started it only smoked for the time it took to burn off the oil in the cylinders. Hit on all 8. Sounded mean. Part of why I'm gunnin' for a flathead myself. Trade my 14 Challenger for a Ford sedan with that engine in it.

We were grain farmers in Eastern Washington in the 1980's and 1990's. The elevator we hauled to still had the old overhead truck lift for those trucks that didn't have a hoist back in the day. It could still operate. It had wheel cradles you drove the front wheels onto. Nobody was allowed in the truck during operation. Driver set the brake, put it in low gear, turn off engine and the overhead lift did the rest. The elevator operator said they kept it operable in case a truck came in that the hoist broke down so they could still dump the truck. That Ford is a nice piece of history. Hope someone wants the whole thing.

My family on MOM's side had a trucking co. Hauled milk and later beer. They had the old makes of diesels such as Diamond Rio, Mack, International, etc. They for some reason didn't like Fords. But there was one with a flat head engine that sat parked most of the time. When one of the favorite trucks broke down or needed service guess which truck came to the rescue. Yep, The Dually Ford with the Flat Head that never failed. It pulled every thing the others could and as far as I remember even without it's proper maintenance was there to perform the rescue. Thanks for reviving at lot of good memories.

I worked at an elevator in the '70s that had a lift like that but sketchier, it had a frame you drove the front wheels on and then cables on the outside to a winch that you lifted the truck up with, that elevator did a lot of pinto beans and had all the bean cleaning shaking machines. We still used it not everybody had a hoist on their truck , or many of them were side dumps for sugar beets.

Budd wheels with the threaded-stud-nut thingy. Familiar with those from when I worked on trash trucks. Good times! LOL.

Then there was that time I got a 1932 Ford BB (1 ton truck with dual rear wheels and metal rod brakes) running after it had sat for like 20 years. The engine had been rebuilt, no idea if it had ever run. Looked brand new. Anyway, I remember that thing having those Budd wheels as well. I drove it to the radiator/A/C shop down the alley from the shop I worked at and told them the A/C didn't work! LOL. While sitting on a plastic milk crate, of course. Ha! Wish I had pics from back then. Just finished watching your vid, and gotta say, AWESOME as always. Thanks for taking us on the ride, Mortske!

The drums on my ‘65 250 had flathead screws holding the drums to the rear hubs too. I was lucky enough to get them off with an impact driver. It made it a breeze to change the shoes. On some models of full floating rear ends a fella has to take the axle shafts, lock nuts, and dimpled washers off just to do a shoe replacement. Quite the mess. I’d say with a little bit of heat and a driver those screws will come out of there. Hopefully this helps. Ford was pretty ahead of their time with making brakes serviceable. Thank you for another cool vid!

I worked on the wheat harvest one summer when I was in college. We started in northern Texas and worked out way north as the wheat ripened. By the time I had to go back to school, we had worked our way clear up to South Dakota. I took grain into a few old grain elevators where they had a unique apparatus of unloading grain trucks that was first installed before trucks had hydraulic bed lifts. It was a cable lift. The cables had a cradle attached to the bottoms. The cradle held the front axle wheels of the truck. It then lifted the front of the truck to dump the grain out of the back. Scary!
