BTW I have that same husky tool set, it’s awesome. Got just about everything you need to work on something! Still missing the good ole crescent wrench! There's a little cover on the side of the injector pump where there's a small linkage that lifts the fuel delivery mechanism. Those linkages are prone to freezing up due to the difference of fuel lubricity in today's fuels. I've been there. I've got two Deuces with the exact same multi-fuel engines and had one that the linkage did stick on. After some working at it with penetrating oil I got it freed up and it fired right up. The cause is from using "other than diesel fuel". Yes, they were made to burn multiple fuels, but only in a pinch. It will run with just a simple repair! Good luck and hope to see a video when you get it running!

@@HamiltonvilleFarm If it's anything like the Bosch VE pump I'm used to, 9/10 it'll just be gummed up from sitting dry for years. those type have a vane pump to pre-pressurise the fuel to a few bar & actuate timing devices etc, that's a common issue when they sit dry or with air in (especially if they've run on something other than diesel, like sunflower oil). even if it's not a vane pre-pump I'd lay money on it just being gummed up, sometimes they can come back if you get fresh diesel into them but mostly you just have to open them up and clean them properly then they'll work. Be wary of good used pumps that were removed from a running engine years ago for the same reasons, just air sitting in them for years can cause gumming up.

Hiya both, Tony's comment about putting old engine oil in the tank to burn reminded me of my good old Diesel Landrover Discovery, early 3 door series, unbreakable turbo diesel, I used %50 new cooking oil plus diesel plus a splash of unleaded, and that old girl just ran sweet on it all, but smelled like French fries going down the road. Done that for the 10 years i owned it, sold it to a collector of landrovers with only 240.000 miles on the clock, never had to tear then engine down at all.. Lovely old oil burner that was.. Have a great day y`all out there. thanks for the videos - Ian - UK.

You have probably figured it out by now, but that kill switch is a simple valve that diverts the fuel from the injector pump back to the tank. If fuel is returning, that valve is stuck open bypassing the injector pump. It is probably stuck internally.

The truck is an old M54 Series 5-Ton cargo truck. There were also Truck Tractors, Wreckers in the series. Used a lot by the Army back in the 60s-70s. Used by Field Artillery as a "prime mover" for cannon artillery, and general cargo uses in such support. Many other unit types used this vehicle. Very good vehicles and very dependable. Good luck in getting it running.

Classic symptom of hydraulic head button that’s fallen off the plunger, which means no fuel pumping to injectors. Very common issue, easy to repair if you take the hydraulic head off (do o rings too at same time). Did y’all ever get this running? That LDS Multifuel makes some decent power over the LDT 465 that came in Deuces.

Check to see if the fdc is still connected. Fdc is fuel density compensater. If it is, it could be that. Also check to see if the fuel shut off is working in the pump. If they left the fuel shut off handle out when parked it could be stuck in side the pump.

The fuel line should go from the primary fuel water filter to the booser section of the injection pump, to the secondary filters, back to the fuel density compensator then the hydraulic head. Like others have said, check where the shut off cable connects to the pump because they are prone to freezing. You can also pull the plug in the center of the hydraulic head between injection lines and check to see if the plunger is pumping to create the pressure. The clip that holds them on is prone to coming off and not letting it create the high pressure. Also check the cab, some of the 5 ton trucks have a second emergency shut down cable that you have to manually reset under the hood.

I can’t remember which trucks they were on but some of them use to have a fuel shutoff solenoid in the fuel line going to the injector pump. It had two wires on one side of it and thumb screw on the other side. The thumb screw could be screwed in and it would open up the valve and allow the fuel to flow. Again I can’t remember what truck but just follow the fuel line and see if it has one. I do remember that we used to keep several of them in our PLL because they would break fairly regular.

@ferencbrown7090
@ferencbrown7090 4 жыл бұрын
it could be that the injection pump pistons are stuck or seized in the top position so the cam in the injection pump isn't doing anything, I had a ford 592e with that problem, if you can access the injection pump inspection cover or where the fuel rack is, you can get a flathead screwdriver and some lubricant and free the pistons up so they actually pump. It could also be that the rack is stuck in the stop position. however, this could be a rotary pump which is completely different than a piston style pump.

Not sure if you are still trying this. The fuel goes from the primary fuel filter to the two secondaries that you bled. After that it goes to the Fuel Density Compensator (FDC). Your full oil pan might mean that it is shot, as it is oil-cooled and leakage past the seals will go into your oil system. You don't need it to run. But if you are getting fuel in the oil you can bypass it. Once running you should bypass it. Check the Tactical Repair channel for instructions, or I can send you the Army by-pass instructions. After the FDC the fuel goes to the hydraulic head. That's the thing with all the injector lines coming out. It directs the fuel to the high-pressure fuel pump on the side of the head. If the o-rings in there are bad you may be low on fuel pressure. But I don't think that's what's going on. I notice an injector line is off. Someone was working on the fuel system and gave up. So, after the hi-pressure fuel pump the fuel goes to the internals of the hydraulic head. There are two registration marks that have to be lined up to put the head in right. One is under a cover just in front of the hydraulic head. The other is inside the hydraulic head under the fuel shut-off cover. People commonly don't line them up right and break a piece of the hydraulic head trying to put it back in. If it isn't lined up then it won't put fuel out at the right time, and the shut-off won't work. You could get a run-away. And, if that is badly out-of-sync with the engine then the little fuel hole in it that feeds the injectors might not be lined up to provide fuel. All the shut off does is cover that little hole. That cover is the two screws on the side of the Hydraulic-Head. It is the one the shut-off is connected to. So pull the shut-off cable to identify it. I think I would check all of those before trying a start...or you could get a run-away, not to mention waste a lot of time, fuel and batteries. Since someone was working on the fuel system, you might want to ensure all the fuel lines are there and properly routed. If not, you may be getting fuel...but not where you want it. None of those are really hard or time-consuming except getting the hydraulic head lined up for re-insertion. That's a pain. Luckily, to see if they are lined up requires removing just four bolts and turning the engine until you see the registration marks are lined up...or they're not. I would hazard a guess and say the fuel supply hole in the hydraulic head is clogged from the fuel line being disconnected. Since they left it disconnected, it is also possible the head or injector pump is out-of alignment with the engine.

Enjoyed the video. I grew up in NW Alabama near a small town called Cloverdale. I think I remember seeing this truck at their fire station in the 80's. I understand that this truck could have come from another Cloverdale, but that thing sure does look familiar. Do you know the history on this thing?

That's cool. I bet it's the same truck. Don't know the history except that's where it came from. Thanks for sharing 👍

It was definitely an Alabama truck, the decals on the door are from the Alabama Forestry Commission "RCFP" program. (Rural Community Fire Protection). Truck came from Fed surplus at some point. I'd speculate they at least had the truck into the mid '90s as that's when the AFC changed their own decal logo to the "burning trees" design seen on those decals. Cloverdale VFD is in Lauderdale County, THE very northwest County in Bama next to Tennessee and across the river from Mississippi.

@@davidr6585 thanks for the information. We farmed about 300 acres around cloverdale which was about 8 miles from our main farm. That truck caught my eye every time we drove through cloverdale. I thought it was pretty awesome.

I don’t know what kind of pump it is but if it is a inline pump like a old cat or old 5.9 Cummins. The linkages/rack will be stuck most of the time. And there will be a pump the makes all the pressure. If you watch squatch253 he has a old caterpillar d2 he is rebuilding he has a few videos on the inline injection pumps. Hope you get it running that’s for making the videos.

Hank and Tony! My two favorite people! 😃👋👋 Proud subscriber to both channels! Not sure what to do about that pump. I think I might take it apart and clean it (if that can be done) or find another one from a similar truck, if you don't want to buy a new one. I'm not sure how available they are for that truck/engine. But I might try to repair it and see what that does. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing it run😎🚜
