Thank you first of all for the great video. Back late 70s we used to work with these old big fords and Chevy trucks in kabul . In competition against Ford and Chevy trucks there were Russian trucks and British Bedford . Mercedes trucks were luxury but American and Russian trucks were used to bring rocks and sand down rough mountains. Lots of old memories popped up as soon I saw the white beast ford.

Hit the starter with a hammer (really). Sometimes what happens from sitting around the brushes stick in their holders and don't make good contact with the armature. Hit the solid part of the body of the starter a couple of times then try it. Do it again while the key is in the crank position. Next is the earth strap connected to the motor? Is the main positive connected to the starter via the solenoid? Is there power to the Solenoid from the ignition switch when its cranked.. Is the solenoid making contact. Tap it with a screwdriver handle while cranking. That should get you into the ballpark. By now you should be able to work out what is happening or not. Tow starting is not recommended with a short rope. LOL It can be quite surprising how quick the towed vehicle starts moving before they slam the clutch back in. LOL Ive seen it happen. Try 2nd or third to tow start it. Good job guys. Runs nicely.

What about the air brakes you said it had? The rear wheels weren't locked when you pulled it out as it still rolled a little when you stopped pulling. Also you can't push start a vehicle when the brakes are locked. Did I miss something?

The rear wheels actually did stick a little. No front brakes. The brake system will need to be completely rebuilt.

The rears were cammed over, so it'll need brakes (and windshield, and door work, and tires) before it can be road worthy.

I love those old Ford B-series. I think this is a pre-1984 because of the FORD script in the grill. After 1984, they used the blue oval in the grill. And most of those early models were gas burners. The hood opened from the top for gas, the entire hood tilted forward for diesel. (obviously this one was converted to diesel) Anyway...just some interesting trivia i thought I'd share. ☺ I'd definitely fix this one up! Keep us posted Hank!

I don't think the hood tilt difference was specific to the fuel type. I've found several F600-F700 trucks that had the 6.6 Brazilian diesel starting in 84 with the "alligator hood", and it seemed to be more of a older model thing that was later changed out for the forward tilt hood up in the beginning of the 90's. One things for sure, Medium/Heavy duty F-series owners all hate the alligator hood. You are correct about the difference in grille emblem. Ford seems to have started the change over from the letters to the logo around 84 but you can still find some up into 85 that still have the letters due to them running the old supply out.

Stick the tank. Buy or find a clean long stick, get a measuring tape and copy the marks onto the stick you'll then have a valuable tool so that you no longer need to guess how much diesel or gasoline the tank has.
