"Never assume because its new that it cant be bad" So true. I had a persistent cold start issue on an old diesel once. I changed the heater plugs as one tested bad. It started better but not right. Top and tail, after a year of problems, i looked into it and thought I'd keep it simple and start with the basics. Tested all the plugs and one was bad. One of the brand-new ones. So I bought another plug, swapped that in and the problem was fixed. Relief, anger at the part and anger at myself for not doing that sooner all washed over me at once. It was an interesting experience 😅
@richardbates23673 сағат бұрын
I have also had this issue with my early 94 Chevy Z71 Silverado extended cab short bed onyx triple gloss black with a quicksilver center down both sides of the truck and the tailgate, truck had a replacement rebuilt 350, and it was on its second failing fuel pump, and i took one look at the nasty fuel filter and bought a complete fuel pump sending unit assembly and noticed after getting it running the fuel pump relay was getting hot so it was replaced with a ac Delco replacement, and the sbc tbi distributor though functional was completely rusted inside so it was swapped out with a parts store equivalent new belden napa 7mm ignition wires and ac Delco r45ts plugs and it was constantly backfiring out the exhaust pipes and glass pack mufflers and cannon exhaust tips and neighbors hated my truck, anyway the tbi on the truck was from god knows what, and i had rebuilt it twice and the second time replaced the fuel pump regulator and spring and gasket, and the iac, and no change two years later it becomes to backfire with almost any throttle input and mostly out of the passenger side third tbi rebuild i must not have been paying attention before because i noticed the passenger side 5279 45lph fuel injector 305tbi and the correct 5206 55lph 350tbi fuel injector and swapped out the tbi with a running unit from a 2wd 350tbi truck and it ran better but still backfiring occasionally i noticed the parts store equivalent ignition control module has no identification whatsoever and swapped out a acdelco ds194a replacement ignition control module and it ran alot better but still taking longer to start than i was happy with so i replaced the oil pressure sending unit fuel pump cutoff switch and noticed it was a 2 prong and connector pigtail to the truck was a three prong,87 was before the fuel pump cutoff, that led me back to the fuel pump relay that used to get warm and noticed the test fused side of the relay was jumpered to the battery unhook that and the truck doesn't start, swapped out the replacement fuel pump relay to the original that used to get hot and bam running and doesn't backfire anymore!!! So yeah several new parts junk issues and the main culprit that killed two new fuel pumps was no one swapped over to the 94 style oil pressure sending unit fuel pump cutoff switch, and just fed the test side of the fused relay constant 12 volt with the key on,i also had a starting issue with the truck i ended up getting a alternator tested and the battery replaced twice and then new starter went back to the mini torque gear reduction starter the 94 is supposed to have and that issue was fixed this was a ac Delco service performance parts replacement from Amazon and was better than the new auto zone high torque value craft reman junk on the truck
@richardbates23673 сағат бұрын
I had timed this truck several times, as well as replaced the ignition coil also because it was rusted, same as the inside of the tbi distributor when i got the truck.
@richardbates23673 сағат бұрын
So yeah new parts well most of them just suck
@richardbates23672 сағат бұрын
The truck is always thought needed shimmed that was because former owner had filed the mounting flange surface on the starter rather than using shims and the solenoid was going out that is why i decided to just go back to the mini torque gear reduction starter the 94 is supposed to have

Those shop's leaving a mess like that was so un professional, but i knew you'd have it all sorted out, because you always do. I felt bad that this guy did all. those year's of work, was thinking a shop would take care of the last mile, but then just let him down. He picked a good guy to finish it up, to bad he couldn't take it with him, but he will have this video to watch and share with his family and friend's. Good on you and James to at least fix it there so he gets to see it run and finished. G-d bless from an old gal freezing up here in Michigan.

As a fellow Georgian in yalls area, I can relate to finding nothing but bad mechanics here. I took my ram to 3 places and got jipped out of over 1K. I even told them what they needed (DRB 2 scan tool) and what needed fixed. It was a horrible mess. I have also hired HVAC techs and none of them can fix my HVAC freezing up. I'm flat broke playing the "swap parts" game. Is the lack of quality techs just a Georgia thing or everywhere?

@@robsdeviceunknown What a weird comment to add
@Turk_8510 сағат бұрын
@@TardWithAHypercam I know where he's coming from with the added comment. Guy said it wasn't doing well on Marketplace and only got like $5000 bids on eBay. He thinks that the thing, in the condition he listed it, is worth way more than it is. Doesn't matter what he spent on it, it was stripped, in boxes, and not running. Anyway, he wouldn't accept a 5k dollar offer, but turns around and gives it away. There's lots of people out there that would have put the time and love into that truck if it was goven to them. The problem is that they could afford to buy it OR fix it, not buy it AND fix it. Remember it was given to Jared, but it isn't a free truck. He's already put a few hundred into getting it running and he's got a lot more to do before it's right, and even more than that before it can be called finished. I was kind of on the flip side. Fortunate enough to have someone to give me the truck (though not in near as good of shape), I've just got to find time, place, and money to "finish it". Also got to figure out what finished is going to be for it.
@Z-Ack5 сағат бұрын
Jared can write off most if not all the expenses if he has the work done in the video plus he could also profit from the content created from the finishing of the truck and if he gives it back thats another writeoff seeing as he would be owner gifting it to another person on the channel.. cant write off more than x amount per year though but x amount can get pretty high depending on how good of an accountant you have and some other things.. But buddy if your ac is freezing up you likely are low on refrigerant and if your low than theres a small leak in the system. Finding that leak can take a good chunk of time to locate and then if the leak can be fixed depending on where thecleaks at. Likely you have an older system that only takes the refrigerant that has been discontinued/ no longer made so legally all hvac companies cant refill the old gas in the system which means a total upgrade or replacing the guts of the unit with parts that accept the new gas.. they arent compatible.. so unless you can find and fix the leak then find somebody who has the type of refrigerant your system takes and can refill the system properly than your sol bud.. shits expensive unless you know somebody.. even then its not cheap.. but hell you can always go to the autoparts stores and buy a bunch of freon (not the 1234a) then just inject it i your ac unit and itll work and cool.. wont be permanent but itll work for a few months to anotger few years before it locks up the compressor..
@robsdeviceunknown3 сағат бұрын
@@Turk_85 Precisely. I'm disabled, so it takes me a long time to save enough to get anything. I can afford to fix things, even some expensive things over time, but takes me a LONG time to save for a 5K item.

If you painted below the sculpted body line along with the hood and the top shell matte black it might look better. Nothing fancy. Rustoleum would probably do the job. As for what to do with it, I think it could make a great off-road recovery vehicle useful for pulling classic cars out of farm fields that have settled into the mud and are overgrown with grass and shrubs, assuming the current drive train can provide the necessary torque to do the job of course. Just a thought.
