My uncle had one of these old ones too. Not sure of same model/CCs but he loved it for over hill 'n dale on the fam's 200 acre farm/woods/sloughs. He even challenged me after I told him of my 600cc Polaris XLT in '95. ~ Something of the lower rev takeoff for swampin'. dunno of that myself. Before the Polaris was a hunert dollar old Cat from a pal as first sled. ~ Cleated track. yoiks! Dry snow on our small lake made many islands of snow twixt bare ice. ~ ... two up with the missus...how fun for a hunert bucks! Half mile out at other end of lake at 25/30mph I turned a bit sharp on ice...loop de loop we went. WEEEEE!...then hit a snow island sideways. We and sled dumped. ..the missus; oh my arm is broke, oh my leg is broke. pfft, she was fine...but what is that black chunka cheese out there in the dark? Oh cwap, it's the battery. (-: anyhoo, that cleated track of the day (perpendicular bars, not studs) worked ok fwd, but sideways on ice they're like skates.

HI From Canada Jeremy! I grew up with the 70's cats...Grew up at a speedway got to race sleds around the track when there were no car races at like 10 yrs old.. the neighbor was the Arctic cat dealer and we would hang around the shop all the time. Now many years later I have a Ski Doo Irondog 800 Etec. Love sleds and everything about them. Love your channel too!

Now you get to enjoy the lost art of studding a cleated track. With only about 25 hp you won’t spin the track hard enough to slice a tunnel from a broken cleat. That’s really rare on a stock lo po Panther. Tops is about 45 mph. We sold these new when I was a boy.

i have a 1991 panther body is totaled i have a old xcr 440 frame, with chaincase that i am going to put most of the panther into. its going to be alot of work. im going to bore out the arctic cat 440 to a 500 and then swap it. after that i will take the shocks off the front and use them hopefully on the xcr 440. then i will mod the rear whole suspension to fit the xcr. its going to be a BIG fun project. i will post all of it on my channel. the swapping onto the xrc frame wont happen until this summer because its under snow. i will post some of me tearing the panther down though.

clean sled for $300. I had a '74 I think it was. Never got to 100%, sometimes ran like a beast, other times it would kind of bog down. upgraded to a 78 motoski so I abandoned the cat but for style you cant beat the old cats. This was the mid 90's, wish I had kept some of the old sleds we used to buy cheap., getting harder to find. Good luck with the sled and the covid.

No One who has or does work on gas powered engines says ridiculous things like "Don't put gas down the spark plug hole it'll damage it" Or something similar. They haven't got a clue as to what getting an old or difficult machine to first fire when cold or after sitting for years. Armchair mechanics. I will say of course it's not ideal and it's not measured etc but it's not going to cause big problems from doing it. What do they think a Primer is on those older sleds?? It literally a little rubber button that you push a few times for that very purpose! Old cars used to have little built in cups on them so you could prime them on first start. People.
